Chapter 2 - The Audit of the Hidden DynastyBy 2:00 AM, the entire executive trauma floor at St. Jude’s Memorial Hospital was operating under an impenetrable, non-negotiable tactical lockdown.

Outside ICU Suite 601, eight armed Vance Security operators stood post, preventing anyone without high-level clearance from stepping onto the floor.

Inside the sunlit, state-of-the-art suite, I lay resting on a plush hospital bed. My body was connected to advanced diagnostic monitors, my abdominal trauma set and stabilized. The embryonic heartbeat of my eight-week-old baby was loud, steady, and clear through the room's speakers:

THUMP-THUMP-THUMP-THUMP.

Sitting in a velvet armchair beside my bed, holding my small, cold hand in his broad palm, was my father, Don Vincent Vance.

Beside his chair stood Bridget Colton, holding three heavy, red-sealed leather binders.

Standing near the foot of the bed, restrained in heavy iron handcuffs guarded by Marcus Vance, was Don Vincent Moretti. He had refused to leave the floor, choosing to stand in silent, agonizing penance, staring at my pale face with tears continuously tracking through the stubble on his cheeks.

"Dad..." I spoke softly, my voice raspy from the oxygen mask, my hazel eyes slowly opening.

"I'm here, Claire, sweetheart," my father whispered gently, kissing my knuckles. "Nobody will ever hurt you again."

Bridget Colton opened the top leather binder, sliding digital ledgers, wiretap logs, and real estate deeds flat onto the tray table before my father, Vincent, and me:

"Claire, Don Vance," Bridget spoke crisp and fast, her sharp blue eyes holding surgical professional fury. "The forensic audit into Sophia Reynolds, her father Julian Reynolds, and the Moretti Commercial Trust is complete."

Bridget tapped the digital displays:

THE STOLEN MATERNAL INHERITANCE: Certified financial registries proving Claire’s late mother, Claire Bennett-Vance, left an irrevocable $150 million trust fund solely in Claire’s name upon her marriage ten years ago.

THE ONE-HUNDRED-MILLION-DOLLAR EMBEZZLEMENT: Proof that Sophia Reynolds and her father systematically forged Claire’s signature on sixty-four luxury store accounts and corporate property deeds, using Claire’s $150 million trust collateral to fund Sophia’s lifestyle and cover her father’s illegal gambling debts in Detroit.

THE SOVEREIGN REAL ESTATE DEED: Original probate titles confirming that Donna Claire Bennett-Vance was the sole 100% legal equity owner of the Moretti Estate in Chicago, the logistics berths, and Vincent's primary corporate tower.

My breath stopped in my chest.

Vincent Moretti turned paper-white. He stared at the ledgers as if he had been struck by lightning.

"She... she was using my wife's money...?" Vincent stammered, his voice cracking violently. "Sophia was stealing from Claire's mother's trust...?"

"For ten years, Vincent," Bridget Colton informed him deadpan. "Sophia Reynolds didn't just manipulate your personal life. She used your protection to steal $100 million from the woman who gave you a home."

I looked toward the foot of the bed, my dark hazel eyes locking onto Vincent’s bloodshot gaze.

"You hit me over a credit card that was paying for her stolen life, Vincent," I rasped out, every word falling like an iron block into the quiet room. "You let her laugh while I bled on your floor."

Vincent dropped to his knees right at the foot of my bed, pressing his forehead against the heavy iron bed frame, weeping hysterical, gut-wrenching tears of pure, unadulterated shame.

"I am sorry, Claire..." Vincent sobbed, his voice breaking into pieces. "I am so sorry... I will spend the rest of my life tearing her world to ash."

"You won't have to tear it down alone, Vincent," my father declared flatly, standing to his full height. "Tomorrow morning at the Chicago Logistics Assembly... my daughter takes her throne."
