Chapter 5 - The Destruction of Nathan’s EmpireNathan thrashed the papers around in his shaking hands, his eyes darting frantically across the red typography on the front page:

EMERGENCY CUSTODY DECREE: Granting Caroline Vance Whitmore sole legal and physical custody of Victoria, Clara, and Grace Whitmore, with zero visitation rights granted to non-custodial parties.
TRUST CAPITAL RECALL: Executing an immediate, thirty-day repayment demand for the four point two million dollars in seed capital provided by the Vance Estate to Whitmore Commercial Real Estate LLC.
CRIMINAL INVESTIGATION NOTICE: Issued by the Franklin County Prosecutor's Office for Spousal Abandonment, Intentional Endangerment of Dependents, and Corporate Tax Fraud.
"FOUR POINT TWO MILLION DOLLARS?!" Nathan screamed frantically, his face flushed with unhinged, sweating panic as he dropped the papers onto the floor. "ARTHUR! YOU CAN'T RECALL THAT CAPITAL! THAT'S MY ENTIRE LIQUID OPERATING RESERVE! MY FIRM WILL GO BANKRUPT BY FRIDAY!"
"Your firm is already bankrupt, Mr. Whitmore," Arthur Vance noted with a cold, razor-sharp smile. "Because forty-five minutes ago, the Board of Directors of Whitmore Commercial Real Estate voted unanimously to strip you of your CEO title, citing severe moral turpitude and financial mismanagement."
Vanessa Brooks let out a high-pitched, hysterical shriek. "CEO TITLE STRIPPED?! NATHAN! WHAT IS HE TALKING ABOUT?!"
"Get out of my sight, Vanessa," Nathan snapped, his composure completely collapsing as he turned back toward me, dropping flat onto his knees right on the polished hospital floorboards before my feet.
The arrogant commercial real estate manager knelt flat on the floor, his hands clutching together in a frantic, groveling plea, tears streaming down his pale cheeks.
"Caroline! Please!" Nathan wept, his voice cracking into raw, pathetic screams that echoed down the hallway. "Forgive me! I was stupid! I was arrogant! I love you, Caroline! They're my daughters too! Let me see my babies... please! Let me hold my girls!"
I looked down at the man groveling flat at my feet with zero anger, zero hatred, and zero fear.
"You asked what time the funeral was for your marriage, Nathan," I spoke softly, every word dropped into the quiet hallway like a final, unbroken truth. "Now... you can ask the federal judge what time your bankruptcy proceedings begin."
The two police officers stepped forward, catching Nathan by his lapels, hoisting him up from the floor, locking heavy steel handcuffs around his wrists behind his back.

"Nathan Whitmore," the lead officer declared flatly. "You are under arrest for Corporate Wire Fraud and Financial Embezzlement."
Nathan and Vanessa were dragged out through the double glass doors in heavy chains, weeping hysterically as the photographer—who had been hired to take heartwarming family pictures—captured every second of their total, public downfall on high-definition camera.
