Chapter 6 - The Festival of the Emerald PoolIn late September 2026, one year after that fateful night at the resort pool, the grand auditorium of the Plaza Hotel in Charlotte was packed to absolute capacity for the inaugural Maddie Bennett Heritage & Financial Protection Gala.

Over five hundred prominent business leaders, supreme court justices, federal prosecutors, and high-society matriarchs gathered beneath sparkling crystal chandeliers.
On a private velvet pedestal near the presentation podium rested a glass bowl of crystal-clear water—a symbol of sovereign resilience, clarity, and unbroken grace.
Standing at the main presentation podium, wearing a dark bespoke charcoal tuxedo, his broad six-foot-three frame squared, his handsome face glowing with deep, quiet pride, holding my hand, was Marcus Vance.
Beside him stood Donna Maddie Bennett-Vance, looking breathtaking in a floor-length dark emerald silk evening gown, her hazel eyes glowing with complete happiness.
Around my neck hung my late father’s restored gold signet pendant.
Marcus adjusted the microphone, his deep, resonant baritone echoing cleanly through the high-fidelity speakers:
"One year ago, a room full of arrogant bullies shoved my sister into a freezing pool, laughed at her wet clothes, and expected her to break," Marcus announced to the silent room, his storm-gray eyes shining with genuine, unshakeable admiration as he looked down at me. "And on that night, a brave queen climbed out of the dark water, used their own trap against them, claimed her sovereign birthright, and brought her entire world back to the light."
Marcus held his champagne glass high under the glittering lights.

"To Maddie!" the entire room erupted into a warm, unanimous standing ovation, five hundred crystal glasses clinking together under the open sky.
