Chapter 4 - The Unmasking on StageGideon and I walked steadily past the gaping crowd, stepping straight onto the elevated presentation stage at the front of the ballroom.

Gideon took the main podium microphone, his deep, resonant baritone echoing cleanly through the high-fidelity speakers, silencing the entire room instantly:

"Ladies and gentlemen of New York," Gideon announced flatly, his dark eyes locking onto Preston and Cassidy with an apocalyptic weight. "Tonight's gala was organized under a strict 'Backless Gowns Only' mandate... a mandate intended by certain cowards in this room to humiliate my Co-Chairwoman, Vivian Vance."

The five hundred guests gasped, turning their heads to glare furiously at Preston and Cassidy.

"Five years ago," Gideon continued smoothly, his voice carrying an unshakeable, sovereign authority, "Vivian pulled her husband out of a burning building, taking thirteen skin-graft surgeries to save his life. Tonight, she wears those scars not as a mark of shame... but as the crown of a true queen."

The entire ballroom erupted into a deafening, unanimous standing ovation! High-society matriarchs, federal judges, and corporate CEOs clapped passionately, admiring the diamond-laced beauty of my back.

Preston thrashed forward toward the stage, his face red with manic panic. "VIVIAN! YOU HAVE NO RIGHT TO EMBARRASS ME IN FRONT OF MY INVESTORS! GET DOWN FROM THERE!"

Bridget Colton stepped out from behind the velvet curtain, sliding a thick stack of court-stamped legal documents flat onto the presentation podium:

SUMMARY DIVORCE FILING: Immediate petition for absolute divorce based on adultery and financial fraud, accompanied by a multi-million-dollar spousal restitution claim.

CORPORATE FORECLOSURE: Certified legal notices confirming Ashford Capital has executed immediate debt foreclosure on Vance Global Capital, stripping Preston of all executive control.

ARREST WARRANTS: Federal warrants served on Preston Vance and Cassidy Vaughn for Arson, Interstate Wire Fraud, and Embezzlement.

Two uniformed federal marshals stepped forward, locking heavy steel handcuffs around Preston’s wrists behind his back.

"Preston Vance," Lead Marshal Miller declared coldly. "You are under arrest."

CLICK. CLICK.

Cassidy thrashed and shrieked in terror as officers served her with civil seizure notices for the Brooklyn penthouse, weeping pathetic tears as news cameras captured their complete, public downfall for the evening news.

Preston fell flat onto his knees on the carpeted floor, groveling frantically as he looked up at me.

"Vivian... please!" Preston wept, reaching his hands out toward my dress. "I was stupid! I loved you! Please tell them to stop!"

I looked down at my ex-husband with an absolute, clean, weightless disgust.

"You called me a monster, Preston," I answered softly, my voice cold as winter ice. "Now watch the monster take back her throne."
