Chapter 6 - The Elegance of ArmorAn hour later, the room was empty except for Benjamin and me.

The sun was beginning to dip below the horizon, casting long, golden shadows across the Manhattan skyline. The empire my father had built wasn't ruined; it was purified. The rot had been excised, the accounts audited, and the future secured under leadership that understood the true value of integrity.
Benjamin slid a small, flat black velvet box across the table toward me.
“What’s this?” I asked, looking down at it with mild curiosity.
“Your father asked me to give this to you specifically after the estate was fully settled,” Benjamin said softly. “He said that no matter what happened with Grant, you needed a reminder of who you actually are.”
I lifted the lid of the box.
Inside rested a brand-new midnight-blue silk dress—not a replacement for the one Rebecca had ruined, but a custom-tailored masterpiece commissioned discreetly by my father three days before he died. Resting on top of the fabric was a handwritten note in his familiar, sharp cursive.

A single tear slipped down my cheek, catching the evening light before falling softly onto the silk. But there was no grief in it this time—only an overwhelming sense of peace, strength, and absolute freedom.
I closed the box, picked up my coat, and walked toward the private elevator.
