Chapter 3 - The Sanctuary in the CloudsWhile Arthur's world was being dismantled on Wall Street, back inside the top-floor penthouse, the air smelled of fresh lavender, warm milk, and chamomile tea.

The private master guest suite had been completely converted into a state-of-the-art neonatal sanctuary. Two luxury white cribs sat beside a panoramic window, equipped with medical-grade temperature monitors and soft organic cotton bedding.

A private pediatric nurse, hired by Elias, was finishing checking the weight of my two baby girls.

I sat in a plush armchair wearing a soft cashmere sweater and leggings provided by Elias's estate team, holding tiny three-day-old Mia against my chest, while four-day-old Lily rested peacefully in the adjacent crib.

Both girls had gained four ounces over seventy-two hours. Their grey, cold skin had turned a healthy, radiant pink, their tiny fingers clutching my thumb with innocent, fierce life.

The heavy oak doors of the nursery opened softly.

Elias stepped into the room, having removed his dark suit jacket, unbuttoning his vest.

When he saw me sitting near the window holding Mia, a rare, breathtaking warmth softened his sharp, aristocratic features.

The pediatric nurse gave a respectful nod and quietly exited the room, closing the door behind her.

I looked up at Elias, my hazel eyes shining with deep, weightless gratitude. "Did he... did Arthur come to the building?"

Elias walked slowly across the room, stopping beside my armchair, looking down at tiny Mia sleeping against my chest.

"He came," Elias answered softly. "And he left with nothing."

Tears welling in my eyes, I reached out my trembling hand, resting my fingers gently over his wrist. "Elias... I don't know how I will ever repay you for this. You saved my life. You saved my daughters' lives."

Elias looked down at my hand resting on his wrist, then looked deep into my eyes.

"You don't owe me anything, Ava," Elias murmured, his baritone thick with raw, unreserved truth. "For ten years, I've lived in this glass tower surrounded by people who only want my money, my contracts, or my influence. When I pulled you and your daughters out of the snow under that bridge... I saw something I haven't seen in this city in a very long time."

"What?" I whispered softly.

"Unbroken courage," Elias answered, dropping onto one knee beside my chair, his broad, calloused hand reaching out to gently brush a stray lock of hair behind my ear. "You froze your own body to keep two tiny hearts beating. That makes you richer than anyone sitting on Wall Street."

My heart took a violent, sweet leap against my ribs.

Sitting in the sunlit sanctuary forty floors above the city, looking into the storm-gray eyes of the most feared billionaire in New York, I realized that the nightmare was behind us forever—and that our true life was just beginning.
