Chapter 2 - The Confrontation in the LobbyAt 10:00 AM, the grand, marble-arched lobby of the Vance Tower on Fifth Avenue was flooded with sunlit elegance.

Dozens of high-powered executives, international investors, and suit-clad attorneys moved past the security turnstiles, but near the private executive elevator bank, three men stood arguing loudly with the head of building security.

Leading them was Arthur Sterling.

He was thirty-four, wearing a expensive camel-wool coat that couldn't hide the frantic, sweat-stained panic in his posture. His dark hair was disheveled, his face flushed, and his eyes wild with desperate, unhinged greed.

"I am Arthur Sterling!" he shouted, pointing a trembling finger at the chief of security. "That man has my wife! He kidnapped my wife and my twin daughters from my home three days ago! Call the police or let me up to the penthouse!"

"You didn't have a wife when you left her under the Hudson overpass, Arthur," a cold, smooth voice echoed across the marble lobby.

The shouting in the lobby died instantly.

The crowd of executives parted like the Red Sea, freezing in their tracks as Elias Vance stepped out from the private elevator.

He wore a bespoke dark charcoal three-piece suit, his posture fluid, commanding, and royal. Walking at his left side was his lead litigation attorney, Sarah Sterling (no relation to Arthur), holding a thick leather briefcase, while two broad-shouldered, six-foot-four security operators flanked his right.

Arthur spun around, his flushed face contorting into an ugly, triumphant sneer as he saw Elias.

"Vance!" Arthur yelled, taking three aggressive steps forward until Elias's security guards stepped into his path, forming an iron wall. "You think because you have billions of dollars you can just steal another man's family?! Ava is my legal wife! Those girls are my legal children! Hand them over, or I'm calling every news camera in Manhattan!"

Elias didn't raise his voice. He didn't flinch. He stopped three feet from Arthur, his slate-gray eyes locking onto Arthur's trembling frame with an intensity so dark and chilling that Arthur's sneer began to falter.

"Your legal wife?" Elias murmured softly, his baritone carrying cleanly across the silent lobby. "The woman you dragged out of your apartment four hours after she gave birth?"

Arthur swallowed hard, a drop of cold sweat cutting down his temple. "She... she was hysterical! She fell! It was an accident!"

"And the severe contusions across her lower back?" Elias pressed, taking one slow, deliberate step forward until his massive frame completely engulfed Arthur's shadow. "The hypothermia that nearly stopped her heart? The fact that her two newborn daughters had a core body temperature of ninety-one degrees when I pulled them out of the snow?"

The surrounding crowd of executives gasped, turning their heads to glare at Arthur with absolute, unadulterated disgust.

"She's a liar!" Arthur shrieked, his voice cracking into a high, pathetic pitch. "She's trying to ruin me! You don't know what she's like, Vance! She gave me daughters when I needed an heir! She's useless!"

Elias’s eyes narrowed into razor-sharp slits of pure, lethal flint.

Sarah Sterling stepped forward, opening her leather briefcase, pulling out a court-sealed document stamped with a bright red judicial seal.

"Arthur Sterling," Sarah announced cleanly, her voice echoing through the lobby. "This is an emergency ex-parte protective order issued two hours ago by the New York State Supreme Court, revoking all your spousal and parental rights, citing extreme domestic endangerment, felony abandonment, and attempted homicide."

Arthur froze, staring at the document in total, horror-stricken shock. "What... what?! You can't revoke my parental rights without a hearing!"

"We can, and we did," Sarah stated deadpan. "And furthermore... Mr. Vance has officially purchased the twelve-million-dollar secondary debt notes from your Brooklyn syndicate."

Arthur’s jaw dropped open. The color completely drained from his face, leaving his skin a pale, sickly gray. "You... you bought my debt...?"

"I own your mortgages, Arthur," Elias whispered softly near Arthur's ear, every word dropped like an iron anvil onto glass. "I own your commercial properties. I own your bank accounts. And as of thirty seconds ago... I am executing immediate foreclosure."

Arthur stumbled backward, his knees giving out, crashing flat onto his back on the marble floor as Elias's security guards stepped forward, hoisting his limp, groveling body off the ground to escort him out into the freezing rain.
