Chapter 7 - The Horizon AheadSix months later, the corporate restructuring of Vance Maritime Industries was complete, and our family name was once again synonymous with honor, innovation, and uncompromising strength.

It was a crisp Saturday morning when I drove my new truck down the coastal road toward Savannah Creek—the very same road where Garrett had tried to send me to a watery grave.

I stopped the vehicle right at the edge of the barrier where our SUV had plunged through. Stepping out onto the gravel, I walked to the edge of the cliff and looked down at the dark, swirling water below.

The terror that had once choked me was gone. In its place was a profound, unshakeable peace.

I reached into my pocket, pulled out the gold wedding band Garrett had slipped onto my finger three years ago, and hurled it far out into the center of the creek. It flashed once in the midday sun before disappearing beneath the surface, leaving barely a ripple behind.

My phone buzzed in my jacket. I pulled it out to see a text message from Tobias:

Board meeting starts in ten minutes, boss. Don’t keep the future waiting.

A genuine, unforced smile spread across my face. I unlocked my truck, climbed behind the wheel, and turned the ignition. The engine roared to life with a deep, steady power that shook the chassis.

I put the car in gear, hit the accelerator, and drove forward into the bright, unobstructed sunlight, leaving the shadows far behind me where they belonged.
