Chapter 5 - The Boardroom ExecutionOne month later, the morning sun broke brightly over the glass skyscrapers of Manhattan.

Inside the top-floor executive boardroom of Vane Global Headquarters on Wall Street, an emergency press conference and shareholder meeting had been convened.
Over two hundred journalists, bank directors, corporate investors, and international media camera crews packed the room, waiting eagerly for the new Chief Executive Officer.
Sitting at the far end of the room, near the secondary security doors, sat Caleb Vance, accompanied by his court-appointed criminal defense attorney.
Caleb looked completely hollowed out. His expensive suits were gone, replaced by a rumpled, off-the-rack jacket, his face pale, dark purple circles carved beneath his sunken eyes, his hair unstyled. He had used his remaining bail privileges to attend the meeting, hoping to plead for a civil settlement before his trial.
BOOM!
The heavy mahogany double doors at the front of the boardroom were thrown open.
Two uniformed private security operators cleared a wide path through the room.
Walking down the central aisle, wearing a breathtaking tailored royal-blue suit, her dark hair styled in glossy, commanding waves, her posture tall, fluid, and absolute, was me.
Carried securely in a luxury white leather sling against my chest was one-month-old Victoria, sleeping peacefully in a white lace onesie.
The entire boardroom erupted into a standing ovation. Photographers snapped dozens of bright flashing pictures as I took my seat at the head of the thirty-foot mahogany table—taking the primary executive chair that my father had occupied for thirty years.
Caleb’s jaw sagged open in total, horror-stricken shock. He stared at me, then stared at the tiny baby resting against my chest, his breath hitching in wild, pathetic hitches.
"Eleanor..." Caleb whimpered from the back row, his voice cracking softly. "Is... is that our daughter...?"
I didn't answer him directly. I adjusted my microphone, looking out over the two hundred corporate leaders sitting before me, my voice smooth, clear, and carried with absolute legal authority.
"Good morning, ladies and gentlemen," I announced cleanly. "Today, Vane Global Holdings announces the acquisition of twelve new renewable energy ports across Europe, along with the complete liquidation of all secondary debt notes held by former executives."
Mr. Harlan stepped forward, dropping certified federal liquidation decrees onto the mahogany table.
"Furthermore," Mr. Harlan added, looking directly at Caleb, "the Vane Family Trust has executed a permanent, court-sealed termination of all parental rights for Caleb Vance, citing felony fraud, spousal abandonment, and corporate theft."
Caleb collapsed onto his knees near the security doors, tears of pure, unadulterated ruin pouring down his cheeks as two federal marshals stepped forward, slapping heavy steel handcuffs around his wrists to drag him to his criminal trial.

"Eleanor! Please!" Caleb shrieked as the doors closed on his crying face. "LET ME SEE MY DAUGHTER!"
I didn't turn my head. I adjusted tiny Victoria's blanket, pressing a soft kiss against her forehead, while the entire boardroom applauded our victory.
