Chapter 3 - The Gala of DelusionAt 8:00 PM the following evening, the grand ballroom of the Four Seasons Hotel in downtown Minneapolis was packed to absolute capacity.

Over four hundred prominent business leaders, municipal politicians, financial journalists, and high-society figures mingled beneath sparkling crystal chandeliers. The event was billed as the SwiftFreight Victory Gala—a lavish, half-million-dollar celebration organized by Charlotte Gable to announce the impending $3.2 billion investment from Crestview Partners.
Gavin Pierce stood near the grand champagne tower wearing a ten-thousand-dollar tailored tuxedo, holding a crystal glass of Dom Pérignon. His handsome face was flushed with wine and unrestrained arrogance.
Beside him stood Charlotte Gable in a plunging crimson silk dress, boasting to a circle of socialite wives about her new role as "Chief Public Relations Strategist and Future First Lady of SwiftFreight."
Standing nearby were Gavin’s sister, Bridget, and her husband, Mason, wearing expensive designer outfits bought using the very offshore accounts they had bragged about hiding from me the previous afternoon.
"To success!" Gavin toasted loudly, clinking his glass against Mason’s. "In forty-eight hours, the Crestview money lands in our primary account. We'll be expanding our fleet into South America before the end of the quarter!"
"And to getting rid of dead weight," Bridget added with a venomous giggle, taking a sip of champagne. "I spent all morning throwing Sabrina’s pathetic little books into trash bags. She didn't even dare to call a lawyer. She walked out in the rain like a kicked dog."
Mason chuckled, adjusting his silk bow tie. "She actually believed me when I told her about the forty million in loans! You should have seen her face—she was terrified!"
Charlotte wrapped her arm possessively around Gavin’s waist, resting her head against his shoulder. "I told you, darling. Women like Sabrina don't belong in our world. You needed someone who actually understands power."
"You're right, Charlotte," Gavin smiled, kissing her forehead. "She was a mistake. But tonight... we rule Minneapolis."
Suddenly, the heavy double doors at the rear of the grand ballroom were pushed wide open.
The loud chatter among the four hundred guests stilled fractionally as a sleek, broad-shouldered man in a dark suit walked into the foyer, followed by four broad-shouldered private security guards in charcoal uniforms.
It was Marcus Vance.
Gavin frowned, setting his champagne glass on a passing waiter’s tray, stepping forward with an air of mild annoyance. "Marcus? What are you doing here? The formal signing ceremony with Mr. Miller isn't until tomorrow morning at your office."
Marcus didn't smile. He stopped five feet from Gavin, pulling a thick, gold-embossed leather binder from his coat.
"Mr. Pierce," Marcus announced smoothly, his deep baritone carrying clearly across the quiet ballroom. "I am here on behalf of the Executive Board of Crestview Capital Partners."

Charlotte stepped up beside Gavin, holding her head high, assuming a media tone. "If this is a surprise congratulatory presentation from Mr. Miller, we are honored—"
"It is not a congratulatory presentation, Miss Gable," Marcus interrupted cold and flat. "It is a formal legal notification."
