Chapter 6 - The Confession on the WaterBy dawn, the storm had broken, leaving behind a breathtaking, crystalline Caribbean morning that mocked the horror of the night before.

The Sterling Star was now flanked by two Coast Guard cutters and a federal evidence-recovery vessel. The yacht’s grand salon had been turned into a temporary federal holding and interrogation room, complete with stenographers, digital recording arrays, and two very miserable, salt-crusted prisoners.

Aidan and Fiona Vance sat handcuffed to opposite sides of a heavy mahogany table, their designer clothes ruined, their faces hollow and gray.

They had pulled Flynn out of the water three miles south of our coordinates at 3:00 AM. He was alive, thanks to a buoyant designer windbreaker that had kept him afloat, but he was suffering from severe hypothermia, cracked ribs from my elbow strike, and a broken nose. Right now, he was sitting in the corner under a thermal blanket, shivering uncontrollably and glaring at me with eyes full of pure venom.

I sat at the head of the table, dressed in a crisp white linen blazer and tailored trousers, sipping black coffee as Marcus placed a thick stack of printed financial ledgers down in front of the Vances.

"Mr. Aidan Vance," Marcus began, his voice flat and lethal. "Federal prosecutors from the Southern District of New York have just executed search warrants on your Swiss bank accounts, your Cayman shell corporations, and your Miami real estate holdings. We found the unauthorized power of attorney documents bearing Chloe Sterling’s forged signature, alongside digital voice recordings of you discussing the premeditated murder of both Chloe and her parents."

Aidan slumped forward in his chair, his arrogance completely shattered. He didn't even try to deny it; the evidence was too airtight, too overwhelming.

"And as for you, Flynn," Marcus turned his cold gaze toward my so-called husband. "The Coast Guard recovered your satellite burner phone from the stateroom floor. The text message history between you and the Marcone crime syndicate regarding the staged brake failure for Mr. and Mrs. Sterling has already been downloaded into evidence."

Flynn’s head snapped up. He looked at me, his voice cracking into a pathetic, desperate whine. "Chloe... please. You have to listen to me. I was pressured! My father—he forced me into this! I loved you, Chloe, I swear I did! It was all Aidan’s idea!"

"Liar!" Aidan shrieked, lunging across the table toward his son, nearly pulling the metal bolt anchors out of the floor. "You were the one who spent three months grooming her at the country club! You were the one who complained about her trust fund not being accessible fast enough!"

"Shut up, you old bastard!" Flynn screamed back, tears of pain and panic streaming down his bruised face.

I watched them tear each other apart with a profound, liberating detachment. The mask was completely off. The golden family of charming socialites had dissolved into a pack of snarling, desperate rats.

"Take them away," I said quietly, setting my coffee cup down on the table.

Federal marshals stepped forward, hauling Aidan, Fiona, and Flynn to their feet. As Flynn was dragged past my chair, he struggled against the guards, looking at me with wild, bloodshot eyes.

"You can't do this, Chloe! We're married! You're my wife!" he screamed.

"Not anymore, Flynn," I replied coldly, sliding a pre-signed annulment and emergency divorce decree across the table into an open evidence folder. "And as for the Vances... your family's empire was built on quicksand. By sunset, every single cent you stole will be frozen, and your family name will be a punchline in federal prison."
