Chapter 5 - The Romano Boardroom ExecutionBy 2:00 PM that afternoon, the top-floor executive boardroom of the Romano Financial Tower on Wall Street was thick with chaotic, high-stakes tension.

Sitting at the head of a thirty-foot mahogany conference table was Victor Romano—a sixty-two-year-old, silver-haired billionaire who had spent forty years running New York’s secondary financial syndicate.

Sitting beside him was his daughter, Vanessa Romano, wearing an immaculate white silk dress, adjusting her diamond necklace while reviewing corporate merger documents.

Eight senior board members and four corporate defense attorneys were huddled around the table, celebrating the upcoming acquisition of Moretti Logistics equity shares.

"Where is Adrian?" Vanessa asked sharply, looking at her gold watch. "He was supposed to sign the merger proxies twenty minutes ago."

"Adrian is handling a minor domestic matter at his estate, Vanessa," Victor replied smoothly, taking a slow sip of his scotch. "He will be here to sign the papers shortly."

BOOM!

The heavy double mahogany doors of the boardroom were thrown open with a thunderous, deafening crash.

Two uniformed federal marshals, flanked by four armed state officers, cleared a wide path through the room.

Walking down the center aisle, wearing an immaculate charcoal suit, his posture fluid, sovereign, and absolute, was me.

Walking at my left side was Maya Reyes, holding a thick leather folder containing Box 204's contents.

And sitting comfortably in my right arm, wearing a cream wool coat over her moon-print pajamas, holding her stuffed rabbit, was four-year-old Lily.

The entire boardroom went dead, suffocatingly silent.

Victor Romano stood up so fast his leather armchair knocked against the glass wall behind him. The color completely drained from his face, leaving his skin a pale, sickly gray under the chandeliers.

Vanessa gasped, her gold pen slipping from her manicured fingers, clattering onto the mahogany table.

"Adrian...?" Vanessa stammered out, her voice cracking into a high, pathetic pitch. "What... what is the meaning of this?! Who is that child?!"

I walked straight to the head of the table, stopping three feet from Victor Romano, looking into his eyes with cold, unyielding judgment.

"This is my daughter, Vanessa," I announced, my baritone echoing clearly through the silent room. "Lily Bennett Moretti."
