Chapter 5 - The DismantlingThe restructuring meeting lasted four grueling hours. By noon, Sterling Dynamics was no longer Ethan’s company.

Under the terms of the default clause in the bridge loan agreement, Vance & Sterling’s legal holding entity assumed immediate receivership of all intellectual property, physical assets, and remaining patent portfolios. Ethan was stripped of his CEO title, removed from the board of directors, and placed on administrative leave pending a federal investigation into corporate fund misuse.
As Marcus packed his laptop and quietly slipped out of the conference room, only Ethan and I remained.
He sat slumped in the chair across from me, staring blankly at the polished mahogany surface. The fight had entirely drained out of him.
“Where am I supposed to go, Claire?” he asked quietly, his voice hollow. “The apartment lease is in your name. The car is under your company credit line. My mother is blaming me for ruining the family name. And Savannah...” He let out a bitter, wretched laugh. “Savannah packed her bags and left this morning when she realized the credit cards were declined.”
I stood up, buttoning the jacket of my charcoal blazer, and looked down at the man who had expected me to quietly accept infidelity, disrespect, and financial betrayal as the price of admission into his life.

“Call an Uber, Ethan,” I said evenly. “And tell your mother that if she ever contacts my family again, the next set of papers she receives won't be corporate restructuring notices—they'll be cease-and-desist orders.”
I turned and walked out of the conference room, leaving him sitting alone in the silent, sunlit expanse of the forty-second floor.
