Chapter 6 - The Final ConfrontationTwo days later, the corporate boardroom of Vancewood Towers looked like a battlefield after the smoke had cleared.

The federal raid had decimated Viktor's inner circle. Marcus Cole and his enforcers were in federal custody, singing like canaries to secure plea deals. The board of directors had held an emergency vote at dawn, stripping Viktor of his CEO title and freezing all corporate assets pending a federal audit.

And at the center of the massive mahogany boardroom table sat Clara Vancewood.

She wore a sharp, tailored obsidian-black wool suit that commanded the entire room. Her hair was pulled back in an immaculate knot, and the scars on her wrists were hidden beneath crisp cuffs, but her posture radiated an absolute, unshakeable authority that made hardened corporate executives lower their eyes when she spoke.

I stood quietly by the floor-to-ceiling glass windows overlooking the Chicago skyline, watching her take total control.

The heavy double doors at the end of the boardroom suddenly swung open.

Viktor Vancewood walked in.

He looked ten years older. His immaculate gray hair was disheveled, his tailored suit rumpled, and his face twisted into an ugly mask of impotent rage. Two federal marshals flanked him, but they released his arms as he stepped into the room, realizing there was nowhere left for him to run.

"Clara," Viktor snarled, his voice shaking with venom as he stopped at the foot of the table. "You ungrateful, treacherous little bitch. You think a few forged files and federal warrants can destroy what I built?"

Clara didn't flinch. She didn't even stand up. She simply leaned back in her leather executive chair, resting her hands calmly on the polished wood.

"You didn't build an empire, Father," Clara said, her voice ringing out clear, cold, and steady across the silent room. "You built a prison. And you funded it with stolen blood, forged medical records, and the lives of everyone who trusted you."

"I gave you everything!" Viktor roared, taking a step forward before the federal marshals stepped in to block him. "Without me, you're nothing! A pathetic recluse no one would ever look at twice!"

"Look at her now, Viktor," I spoke up from the window, stepping forward into the light of the boardroom.

Viktor whipped his head around, his eyes locking onto me with pure hatred. "You! This wretched fortune hunter—"

"Is now the executive chairman of Vancewood Holdings," Clara interrupted smoothly, standing up from her chair and looking down her father with absolute, regal disdain. "And by unanimous vote of the board, every single asset, property, and subsidiary you control has been formally seized and transferred to my name."

Viktor’s face drained of all color. He staggered backward, his mouth opening and closing like a fish out of water as the full reality of his defeat crashed down upon him.

"Take him away," Clara commanded quietly.

The federal marshals grabbed Viktor by the arms, hauling him backward toward the double doors. He screamed curses and threats that echoed down the hallway until the heavy doors slammed shut, cutting him off from the world he had ruled through fear for decades.

Silence settled over the boardroom.

Clara stood alone at the head of the table, breathing out a long, shuddering sigh of release. The ghosts of her past—the locked doors, the hospital beds, the whispers of high society—had finally been laid to rest.

I walked slowly across the carpet, stopping right beside her chair.

She turned her head, looking up at me with eyes that no longer held fear or sorrow—only a profound, unshakeable peace.
