Chapter 2 - The Invasion of the SanctuaryAt 4:15 AM, the luxury penthouse condo on the forty-second floor of The Grand Plaza Residences was filled with the sound of popping champagne corks and loud, obnoxious laughter.

Carmen Robles sat on the velvet sofa wearing her gold mother-of-the-bride dress, a crystal glass of vintage Merlot in her hand. Across the room, her son, Javier, stood near the marble fireplace, wearing his unbuttoned wedding tuxedo, admiring the panoramic view of the Chicago skyline.

Sitting around the glass dining table were the six women who had helped Carmen in the honeymoon suite—Carmen’s sisters and business associates—laughing as they scrolled through pictures on their phones.

"She’s probably crying in some cheap motel right now," Javier chuckled, taking a slow sip of champagne. "By tomorrow afternoon, her mother will force her to sign the quitclaim deed just to keep us from coming after her family."

Carmen smiled disdainfully, swirling her wine. "I told you, Javier. Girls raised by single mothers are soft. They don't have the stomach for a real fight. That condo is worth two point eight million dollars. It belongs to the Robles family now."

BOOM!

The reinforced steel double doors of the penthouse didn't just open—they blew inward off their heavy brass hinges with a deafening, thunderous crash.

Drywall dust and wood splinters exploded into the foyer.

Javier dropped his champagne glass, the crystal shattering against the hardwood floor. The six women shrieked in terror, scrambling up from the dining table as eight heavily armed men wearing dark tactical gear, helmets, and night-vision equipment flooded into the penthouse.

Before Javier could take a step, two broad-shouldered operators grabbed him by his lapels, driving his body flat against the marble hearth, pinning his head down with iron force.

"WHAT THE HELL IS THIS?!" Carmen screamed, jumping up from the sofa, her face contorting into wild rage. "DO YOU KNOW WHO I AM?! CALL THE POLICE!"

A tall, broad-shouldered man in a dark military jacket stepped calmly through the shattered doorway, walking slowly across the ruined foyer.

Colonel Alexander Brooks.

He didn't draw a weapon. He didn't shout. He walked with slow, deliberate, terrifying precision, stopping two feet from where Javier lay pinned against the hearth.

Alexander looked down at Javier, his eyes cold as Arctic ice.

"You're Javier," Alexander spoke softly, his voice carrying an authority that instantly silenced the room.

"Who... who are you?!" Javier choked out, gasping for air under the operator's heavy boot. "Get out of my house!"

Alexander leaned down, grabbing Javier by his silk tie, hoisting his six-foot frame effortlessly off the floor with one hand, slamming him flat against the stone fireplace column.

"This isn't your house, coward," Alexander whispered into Javier’s ear, his breath hot and lethal. "This is the sanctuary I built for my daughter. And you brought blood into it."
