Chapter 6 - The Sanctuary in Upper EastSix months after the night at the Alden House Hotel, the golden spring sun broke warmly over the soaring stone terraces of my penthouse overlooking Central Park.

The war for the West River was finished with absolute, crushing finality.

Patrick Sloan’s narcotics network was entirely dismantled, his lieutenants incarcerated in federal maximum-security facilities, while his commercial shipping terminals were fully absorbed into the legitimate logistics framework of Vale Enterprises.

Meanwhile, my life with Clara transformed completely.

She was no longer just my quiet forensic accountant sitting on the third floor. She was my wife, the co-owner of my empire, and the undisputed matriarch of my world.

On a warm, clear Saturday afternoon in late May, the wide glass terrace of our penthouse was illuminated by hundreds of soft, white orchids and sunlit champagne for a private celebration.

Over fifty corporate directors, legal team members, and close friends gathered around long white-linen tables, enjoying fine food and live classical music.

Clara stood near the marble balustrade wearing a breathtaking, floor-length emerald silk dress—a custom gown designed to celebrate every magnificent, generous curve of her body. Around her neck rested a flawless solitaire diamond necklace—my gift to her.

Down on her left hand rested a seven-carat emerald-cut diamond ring set in platinum.

I walked out onto the terrace wearing a dark navy suit, stepping up behind her, wrapping my broad, warm arms around her waist, pulling her back flush against my chest.

I pressed a sweet, lingering kiss against her temple, my gray eyes burning with an absolute, unshakeable devotion.

"What are you thinking about, my queen?" I whispered softly into her ear.

Clara turned in my arms, resting her hands against my broad chest, looking up into my handsome face with her bright hazel eyes.

"I was thinking about the red dot," Clara answered softly, a radiant smile touching her lips. "When I wrapped myself around you in the middle of the ballroom."

May you like

I offered a rare, breathtaking smile—a look of pure, eternal love that lit up my features.

"You thought you were saving my life, Clara," I promised, leaning down to press my lips softly, fiercely against hers in a deep, unhurried kiss. "And you ended up giving me a soul."
