Chapter 6 - Total BankruptcyHook for Facebook: My husband chose his mistress over me, thinking he was securing his future. Two hours later, he was kneeling on the floor of a crowded ballroom, begging me for mercy as his stocks plunged to zero.

The downfall of Spencer Conway was fast, brutal, and completely public.
Within minutes of Raymond Harrell’s command, news of the Apex Group blacklisting the Conway Group leaked to the press. On the giant financial tickers inside the hotel’s VIP lounge, the Conway Group’s stock began a vertical dive, losing 40% of its value in less than twenty minutes.
Spencer’s phone was ringing off the hook. His board members, his investors, his banks—all calling in a panic. He sat on the floor of the ballroom, staring at his screen in horror as his life's work dissolved into nothing.
Paisley, seeing that the ship was sinking, immediately tried to distance herself. She took a step away from Spencer, looking around the room for any other wealthy man who might save her.
“Spencer, you’re pathetic,” Paisley hissed softly, trying to adjust her dress. “Don’t drag me down with your mess.”
But before she could walk away, two hotel security guards blocked her path. Marcus, the hotel manager, stepped forward holding a tablet.
“Miss Daley,” Marcus said loudly, ensuring the entire room could hear. “We’ve just run a check on the credit card used to reserve your VIP access and that champagne dress you are wearing. It belongs to a corporate account under the Conway Group—an account that has just been frozen for fraud investigation by Harrell Enterprises.”
The crowd began to laugh and murmur.
“Furthermore,” Marcus continued coldly, “since you are no longer a guest of a valid member, you are trespassing. Security, escort Miss Daley out the back entrance. And make sure the paparazzi get a good look at her.”
“Let go of me! Do you know who I am?!” Paisley screamed as the guards grabbed her arms, dragging her away. Her expensive heels scuffed against the floor, her hair falling out of its perfect updos. She looked ridiculous, stripped of her borrowed luxury.
Spencer crawled toward me, his hands shaking. “Phoebe... please. Give me one more chance. I’ll fire Paisley. I’ll give you everything. I’ll buy you a thousand dresses! Please don’t let your father destroy me!”
I stepped back, allowing my father’s bodyguards to step between us.

“You told me I would ruin your evening, Spencer,” I said softly, looking down at him one last time. “It looks like you managed to ruin your own life without any help from me.”
Turning my back on him, I took my father's arm. We walked out of the ballroom together, leaving Spencer Conway ruined, alone, and completely broken on the floor.
