Chapter 3 - The Assembly at the Grand ConcourseAt 10:00 AM the following morning, the soaring mahogany assembly hall atop the forty-story Manhattan Financial Center was packed to absolute capacity.

Over four hundred prominent technology magnates, defense directors, municipal judges, and high-society investors gathered beneath sparkling crystal chandeliers for the annual Global Quantum & Defense Assembly.
Sitting near the head of the raised executive table, wearing a dark tailored suit, holding a silver pen, was Thomas’s socialite mother, Victoria Steves. Beside her sat her corrupt legal counsel, smirking as they prepared to sign corporate buyout documents to liquidate the Valentine Quantum patents.
"Gentlemen!" Victoria announced smoothly into the central microphone, her voice dripping with false authority, "today we ratify the administrative takeover of Valentine Quantum Labs due to the permanent absence of legitimate heirs—"
BOOM!
The heavy double oak doors of the executive assembly hall were thrown open with a violent, hydraulic impact!
The chatter of four hundred high-society guests vanished into an absolute, speech-bound silence.
Walking down the central red-carpeted aisle, flanked by Chief Security Director Marcus Vance and four armed federal marshals, was Don Larkin Steves.
He wore an magnificent dark charcoal bespoke suit, his broad six-foot-four frame squared, radiating an untouchable, sovereign authority that dropped the room's temperature to absolute zero.
And walking right beside him, supported by his strong arm, wearing a breathtaking floor-length dark emerald silk suit that celebrated her graceful figure, her dark hair falling in glossy waves over her shoulders, her hazel eyes burning with absolute, sovereign victory... was Donna Penelope Valentine-Woods.
Around her neck hung the fifty-carat emerald signet pendant of the Valentine Dynasty, her presence dominating the entire room.
Victoria Steves dropped her silver pen.
CRASH!
The heavy metal pen clattered flat against the mahogany table, rolling onto the floor as her face went from arrogant red to an ugly, paper-white shade of green. Richard Sterling-Smith stood up so fast he knocked his leather chair backward against the window.
"V-VICTORIA...?! LARKIN?! PENELOPE?!" Richard stammered, taking two panicked steps backward. "WHAT IS THIS ILL-MANNERED INTERRUPTING?! SHE IS JUST A SECRETARY!"
"She isn't a secretary, Richard," Larkin Steves announced flatly, his clear, deep baritone carrying cleanly across the silent hall, dropping the temperature to zero. "She is the Executive Chairwoman of the Valentine-Steves Heritage Trust... and the sole owner of your entire logistics network."
Bridget Colton stepped forward, sliding a thick stack of court-stamped legal notices flat into Victoria Steves’s trembling hands:
TOTAL QUANTUM RECOVERY: Certified federal enforcement of the Valentine Trust Deeds, transferring 100% controlling equity directly to Chairwoman Penelope Valentine-Woods.
ARREST WARRANTS: International arrest warrants served on Victoria Steves, Thomas Steves, and Richard Sterling-Smith for Premeditated Extortion, Evidence Tampering, Forgery, and $180 Million Wire Fraud.
IMMEDIATE EVICTION & ASSET FREEZE: Total forfeiture of all personal properties, luxury vehicles, and bank accounts registered under Thomas’s shell companies.
"THIS IS UNLAWFUL!" Victoria shrieked, thrashing wildly as two uniformed federal marshals stepped forward with heavy steel handcuffs. "LARKIN, THOMAS IS YOUR COUSIN! YOU CAN'T SACRIFICE US FOR A SECRETARY!"
"I didn't sacrifice you for a secretary, Victoria," Larkin corrected deadpan, stepping beside Penelope, wrapping his broad, warm arm securely around her waist, pulling her frame flush against his solid side. "I destroyed you because my wife is the sovereign queen of this empire. And today, she tears your world to ash."
