Chapter 2 - The Audit of the Hidden DynastyBy 2:00 AM, the top-floor executive command suite at The Steves Dynamics Tower overlooking Wall Street was operating under an impenetrable, non-negotiable tactical lockdown.

Outside the private elevator banks, twenty armed Vance Security operators in dark charcoal suits, led by Lieutenant Colonel Marcus Vance, guarded every corridor. Inside the private executive study, I sat in a high-backed velvet armchair, wearing a plush wool robe provided by staff, holding a mug of hot chamomile tea.
Across the broad black granite conference table sat Larkin Steves, Senior Corporate Prosecutor Bridget Colton, and two federal forensic accounting experts.
Restrained in heavy leather chairs in the corner, under the watchful eye of Marcus Vance, were Thomas Steves and his corrupt lawyer, Richard Sterling-Smith.
Bridget Colton opened three heavy, red-sealed leather binders, sliding digital ledgers, wiretap logs, and original probate charters flat onto the granite table before Larkin and me:
"Larkin, Penelope," Bridget spoke crisp and fast, her sharp blue eyes holding surgical professional fury. "The forensic audit into Thomas Steves, Richard Sterling-Smith, and the Valentine Quantum Embezzlement is complete."
Larkin stood by the floor-to-ceiling glass windows, his tuxedo jacket off, his white dress shirt sleeves rolled up to reveal his broad, muscular arms, his gray eyes burning with an apocalyptic fire. "Explain it."
Bridget tapped the digital displays:
THE ONE-HUNDRED-EIGHTY-MILLION-DOLLAR EMBEZZLEMENT: Forensic accounting logs proving Thomas Steves systematically diverted $180 million over four years from Penelope’s late father’s estate—Valentine Quantum Labs—into Panamanian shell accounts co-owned by Richard Sterling-Smith.
THE FORGED SURROGACY & GUARDIANSHIP: Intercepted wiretaps proving Thomas hired private investigators to ensure Penelope remained trapped in entry-level administrative roles, using her student loans to keep her from claiming her inheritance.
THE SOVEREIGN EQUITY CHARTER: Original legal deeds confirming twenty-eight-year-old Donna Penelope Valentine-Woods as sole sixty percent controlling common equity holder over the entire Steves Defense & Quantum Network.
My jaw locked into unyielding granite.

Thomas thrashed weakly in his leather restraints, his face paper-white. "Larkin... listen to me! She was just a secretary! I did it to keep the company's valuation high!"
"You didn't keep the company high, Thomas," Larkin corrected deadpan, walking across the room until his six-foot-four frame towered over his cousin. "You tortured an innocent heiress, stole her birthright, and tried to humiliate her in front of New York. And tonight, your world turns to ash."
