Chapter 4 - The Boardroom SurrenderTwo weeks passed like a tense, silent war across Chicago.

Luca didn't force his way into my house. He didn't send private investigators to harass my family.
Instead, he did something far more terrifying: he began systematically dismantling every obstacle that stood between us.
On a rainy Tuesday morning, the front-page headline of the Chicago Financial Times detonated across the city:
[MORETTI GLOBAL CEO LUCA MORETTI FILES FOR EMERGENCY DISSOLUTION OF MARRIAGE FROM EVELYN SHAW.]
[REPORTS CONFIRMEVELYN SHAW’S FATHER REMOVED FROM MORETTI BOARD FOLLOWING DISCOVERY OF FRAUDULENT MEDICAL LEAKS.]
I sat at my kitchen table staring at the newspaper in complete, speech-bound shock.
The article revealed that five years ago, Evelyn’s father—a senior board member at Moretti Global—had paid a lab technician at our private fertility clinic fifty thousand dollars to alter my hormone reports, making it appear as though I was suffering from early ovarian failure.
They had manufactured my infertility to drive a wedge between Luca and me, paving the way for Luca to marry Evelyn and secure the Shaw family's commercial bank mergers.
My hands shook violently as the paper fell from my fingers.
My phone rang. This time, it wasn't an unlisted corporate line. It was my attorney, Arthur Vance.
"Nia," Arthur spoke, his voice laced with deep, quiet awe. "Luca Moretti is sitting in my conference room right now."
I swallowed hard. "Arthur, I told you I'm not filing for child support—"
"He isn't here about child support, Nia," Arthur interrupted softly. "He just signed over forty percent of his voting proxies in Moretti Global into an irrevocable trust for Maya and Leo. And he’s sitting here with a black folder containing his original medical records from five years ago."

I pulled my coat from the rack, grabbed my keys, and looked at my reflection in the hallway mirror.
"I'm on my way," I said.
