Chapter 4 - The Arrival of the TitanAt 5:45 PM, fifteen minutes before Brenda’s medical transport team was scheduled to arrive, the narrow street outside our Chicago apartment building echoed with the low, rumbling hum of heavy engines.

I stood by the front window, holding Clara carefully in my arms, a thick wool blanket wrapped around her legs to shield her from the winter cold.
Parked along the curb were four black, armor-plated Cadillac Escalades, their high-beam headlights slicing through the darkening rain like searchlights.
Stepping out from the lead vehicle, wearing a heavy charcoal wool overcoat over a tailored dark suit, holding a gold-headed walking cane, was Charles Bennett—the undisputed patriarch of Bennett Global Logistics, a man whose sovereign wealth made Brenda’s corporate ambitions look like children playing with pocket change.
Behind him stepped six broad-shouldered private security operators in dark suits, alongside a tall, sharp-looking female attorney carrying a thick leather briefcase.
The building’s front doors were thrown wide open.
Footsteps echoed up the wooden staircase, and a moment later, my grandfather stood in our apartment doorway.
At seventy-five, Charles Bennett possessed an unyielding, regal authority that commanded instant submission. His storm-gray eyes—the same eyes I had inherited—swept over the small living room, taking in the bruised state of Clara's legs and my torn, sweat-stained shirt.
"Grandfather..." I breathed.
Charles didn't say a word. He walked slowly across the room, stopping directly in front of Clara. He dropped his walking cane, knelt down on the wooden floor despite his aged knees, and took Clara’s cold, trembling hands in his large, warm palms.
"My dear child," Charles spoke, his gravelly voice trembling with a grandfather's profound, long-buried reverence. "For three months, my daughter Brenda told me you were resting in a private spa in Florida. If I had known she had laid a single finger on you..."
Clara looked into the old man's face, seeing zero deceit, zero cruelty—only an unbroken, fiercely protective honor.
"Mr. Bennett..." Clara whispered, tears welling in her eyes.
"Call me Grandfather, Clara," Charles corrected gently, pressing a reverent kiss against her knuckles.
He stood up smoothly, turning to the female attorney standing behind him. "Bridget. What is the status of the emergency injunction?"
Attorney Bridget Colton stepped forward, pulling a document bound by bright red judicial seals from her briefcase. "The State Supreme Court has issued an Emergency Judicial Protection Order revoking all medical powers of attorney held by Brenda Vance and Dr. Arthur Vance. Furthermore, federal marshals have issued arrest warrants for illegal confinement, medical fraud, and conspiracy."
Just then, heavy footsteps pounded up the stairs outside.
Brenda pushed through the hallway, flanked by two burly medical technicians wearing white scrubs from the Vance Sanitarium, holding a pair of heavy leather restraint straps.
"Marcus! Open this door right now!" Brenda shrieked, holding up her phone. "The transport team is here! You cannot stop a court-ordered medical—"
Brenda stopped dead in her tracks as she crossed the threshold.
Her eyes landed on Charles Bennett.
The phone slipped from her manicured fingers, crashing flat against the floorboards, the screen shattering into a hundred glittering pieces.

Every single drop of color drained from her face, turning her an ugly, paper-white shade of green.
"F... Father?!" Brenda stammered, her voice cracking into a high, hysterical, terrified squeak. "What... what are you doing here?!"
