Chapter 4 - The Audit at Vance & AssociatesWhile Nathan’s firm crumbled, I sat in the sunlit, forty-second-floor corner office of Vance & Associates, wearing a tailored midnight-blue silk suit, my dark hair styled in an elegant knot, my posture tall, calm, and sovereign.

Sitting across from me were three Senior Special Agents from the IRS Criminal Investigation Division and Lead Prosecutor Rachel Hayes from the United States Attorney’s Office.
Madison Vance sat beside me, sliding a thick leather binder containing my complete forensic audit across the table.
Lead Prosecutor Rachel Hayes reviewed the color-coded ledger spreadsheets, her sharp eyes gleaming with deep professional admiration as she looked up at me.
"Mrs. Whitmore," Prosecutor Hayes spoke, her voice rich with respect. "This forensic audit is absolute perfection. You've traced over twelve million dollars in laundered retainer fees through four shell companies in Delaware and Grand Cayman."
"Nathan believed I was just typing his legal briefs, Prosecutor Hayes," I answered softly, offering a quiet, confident smile. "He didn't realize I was cross-referencing his corporate filings with the state tax registry every single night."
"With this evidence," Hayes announced, closing the binder with a firm CLACK, "the Grand Jury will issue formal indictments for High Federal Wire Fraud, Tax Evasion, and Money Laundering by four o'clock today."
Madison Vance smiled warmly, pouring two glasses of sparkling water, handing one to me. "What is your next move, Claire?"

I looked out the high glass window toward the towering skyline of Chicago, feeling a profound, weightless peace settle into every corner of my soul.
"Nathan thinks his money and status can buy his way out of this," I revealed deadpan. "It's time to show him who really built his career."
