Chapter 7 - Unbroken and Forever HomeAt 8:30 PM, as the spring sun dipped below the Chicago horizon, painting the sky over Pilsen in brilliant shades of rose, gold, and deep sapphire, the private garden was illuminated by dozens of soft, twinkling fairy lights.

Leo, Maya, and Chloe were fast asleep inside their second-floor bedroom, tired from a long day of playing in the park.

I stood near the stone balustrade overlooking the quiet neighborhood, holding a warm cup of coffee, feeling a deep, weightless peace settle into every corner of my soul.

Grace walked out onto the porch wearing an oversized knit sweater, sliding her warm arms around my waist from behind, resting her chin comfortably against my shoulder blade.

"Look at the sky, Ryan," Grace whispered softly into my ear. "It's clear."

I reached down, covering her broad, warm hands with mine, holding her close against my chest.

"It’s clear because we’re home, sweet girl," I murmured, turning around in her arms to look down into her clear hazel eyes.

Down on her left hand rested a simple, breathtaking platinum wedding band—a new ring engraved with the words: FOREVER YOURS, RYAN.

There were no velvet ring boxes hidden in corporate coats. There were no arrogant mothers dictating our lives. There were no tears swallowed in sterile hospital rooms.

The lonely corporate partner was dead forever. The sovereign father had claimed his throne.

And standing under the vast, unbroken sky, wrapped in the warmth of the woman I loved, holding my children's future safe in my hands, I knew that our peace, our lives, and our home were finally, beautifully, and forever safe.
