Chapter 6 - The Gala at the PlazaIn late September 2026, the grand ballroom of the Plaza Hotel in Chicago was packed to absolute capacity for the annual Romano Global Civic & Botanical Gala.

Over five hundred prominent business leaders, supreme court justices, federal prosecutors, and high-society matriarchs gathered beneath sparkling crystal chandeliers.
Standing at the main presentation podium, wearing an magnificent charcoal bespoke tuxedo, was Massimo Romano. His broad six-foot-four frame was squared, his severe, handsome face radiating an unshakeable, sovereign authority and a profound, radiant peace.
Beside him stood Nonna Rosa, looking regal in a silver gown, while I stood at his side looking radiant in an emerald silk evening gown.
Massimo adjusted the microphone, his deep, resonant baritone echoing cleanly through the high-fidelity speakers:
"One year ago, a brave young woman walked into my bedroom by mistake," Massimo announced to the silent room, his storm-gray eyes shining with deep, genuine pride as he looked at me. "And she taught me that true royalty isn't built on fear or weapons... it is built on truth, courage, and unbroken love."
Massimo held his champagne glass high under the glittering lights.

"To Sophie!" the entire room erupted into a warm, unanimous standing ovation, five hundred crystal glasses clinking together under the open sky.
