Chapter 6 - The Trap Within the TrapThe underground vault beneath the Carter estate was a fortress of reinforced steel, digital encryption, and biometric scanners.

It was 2:00 AM. The rain hammered against the reinforced skylights above the estate courtyard as my father, Julian, and I stood around the central holographic console in the vault. On the main display screen, a simulated data feed flickered with lines of green code.

“Owen Mercer took the bait,” my father said, his voice deep and steady as he crossed his arms over his chest. He looked at Julian with an appraising, critical gaze. “And your source inside Viktor Vance’s organization confirmed the trojan horse drive was successfully handed off?”

“Confirmed, Mr. Carter,” Julian replied smoothly, standing beside me with his hands in his pockets. “Owen smuggled the drive into the Bellweather Grand’s basement network early this evening, believing it was routing directly into your private estate mainframe. But our IT security team intercepted the packet stream three hours ago.”

“And what did you find on their drive?” my father asked, raising an eyebrow.

I stepped forward, tapping a few commands onto the touch-sensitive console. A massive flowchart of corporate entities, offshore bank accounts, and illegal shipping routes lit up the screen in red and blue.

“It wasn't just a trojan horse,” I explained, my voice sharp with professional triumph. “Viktor Vance was stupid enough to include his own master private keys on the drive so he could remotely execute the data siphon once Owen connected it. He essentially handed us the digital keys to every shell corporation, Swiss bank account, and municipal bribe he’s accumulated over the past decade.”

My father’s lips curved into a rare, dangerous smile. He looked at me with deep, undeniable pride. “Like father, like daughter. You didn't just audit their balance sheet—you foreclosed on their entire criminal enterprise.”

“We’re not done yet,” Julian added, stepping closer to the console. “Viktor thinks he’s executing a strike against you tonight at dawn. If we initiate a simultaneous freeze on all his offshore accounts at 6:00 AM sharp, synchronized with a federal raid led by the municipal corruption task force, Viktor and his associates won't even have time to pack a bag before federal marshals kick down their doors.”

“And what about Owen Mercer and the Hales?” my father asked.

“Let them watch,” I said coldly. “Let them sit in a courtroom and watch the entire syndicate they tried to protect get dismantled piece by piece, dollar by dollar, until they realize that playing games with the Carter family is a fatal error.”

My father placed a heavy, warm hand on my shoulder. “Execute the protocol.”
