Chapter 7 - Unbroken and Forever HomeSix months after the rainy morning on Fifth Avenue, a warm, clear spring sun painted the sky over our oceanfront estate in East Hampton in brilliant shades of gold, rose, and deep sapphire.

On the vast oceanfront terrace overlooking the Atlantic Ocean, two hundred prominent corporate leaders, supreme court justices, federal prosecutors, Mave’s younger brother—who was now a thriving chief resident surgeon at New York Presbyterian—and close friends gathered around white-linen tables set up along the stone patio for an official wedding and family celebration.
I stood near the marble balustrade wearing an immaculate black tuxedo. My posture was broad, tall, and sovereign, my winter-gray eyes shining with absolute, unshakeable victory.
Mave walked out onto the terrace wearing a breathtaking, floor-length ivory silk wedding gown designed to celebrate every line of her figure. Her dark hair fell in glossy waves over her shoulders, her hazel eyes shining with deep, radiant love.
Down on her left hand rested an eight-carat flawless emerald-cut diamond engagement ring set beside her original platinum wedding band, restored to her finger forever.
Three-year-old Posie—wearing a miniature ivory silk dress and a crown of yellow sunflowers—ran across the manicured green lawn, giggling happily as she chased a golden retriever puppy under the warm spring sun.
Mave stepped up beside me near the balustrade, wrapping her small hand around my broad arm, leaning her head comfortably against my shoulder.
I wrapped my broad arm around her waist, pulling her back flush against my chest, pressing a sweet, lingering kiss against her temple.
"What are you thinking about, my queen?" I whispered softly into her ear.
Mave looked out over the vast, sparkling blue waters of the Atlantic stretching before us into the unbroken horizon, feeling a deep, weightless peace settle into every corner of her soul.
"I was thinking about a rainstorm on Fifth Avenue six months ago," Mave answered softly, turning in my arms to rest her hands against my broad chest. "When a man in a tuxedo walked away from a five-hundred-person wedding because he saw his daughter's eyes."
I offered a rare, breathtaking smile—a look of pure, eternal love that lit up my carved face.
"I didn't walk away from a wedding, Mave," I promised, leaning down to press my lips softly, fiercely against hers in a deep, unhurried kiss. "I walked back to my life."
Wesley raised his champagne glass from the main table, his deep voice carrying cleanly across the quiet grounds.
"To Don Garrett, Donna Mave, and Princess Posie Hail!" Wesley toasted with deep, genuine pride. "The sovereign family who rebuilt an empire out of unbroken strength, truth, and eternal love!"
"To Garrett, Mave, and Posie!" the entire terrace echoed in a warm, triumphant chorus, dozens of crystal glasses clinking together under the open sky.
Across the dark, sparkling blue waters of the Atlantic, the evening sun dipped below the horizon, painting the sky in sweeping tapestries of indigo, gold, and deep sapphire.
There were no arrogant matriarchs fabricating lies in dark rooms. There were no fake weddings forcing corporate mergers. There were no tears or three-year silences separating our hearts.

The broken, lonely past was dead forever. The sovereign family had claimed their true home.
And standing under the vast, unbroken sky, wrapped in the arms of the woman I loved, holding our daughter safe in our hands, listening to the silver applause under the spring sun, I knew that my life, my heart, and my family were finally, beautifully, and forever home.
