Chapter 4 - The Purge of the Lake Forest EstateAt 2:00 PM that afternoon, the sprawling, thirty-acre Calloway Estate in Lake Forest, Illinois, was surrounded by six dark SUVs from Vance Tactical Security and four marked units from the Illinois State Police.

Inside the soaring, marble-columned grand foyer beneath crystal chandeliers, sixty-four-year-old Victoria Calloway stood at the base of the sweeping double staircase. She wore an magnificent champagne silk gown, her diamond necklace glittering under the recessed lighting, her face pale with mounting rage as state troopers secured the exits.
Beside her stood her corrupt personal attorney, Richard Sterling-Smith, frantically trying to dial a private judge on his mobile phone.
"THIS IS AN OUTRAGE!" Victoria shrieked into the echoing foyer. "I AM VICTORIA CALLOWAY! WHO AUTHORIZED THIS TRESPASS ON MY PROPERTY?!"
BOOM!
The heavy double reinforced oak entrance doors were thrown open with a violent, hydraulic impact!
Walking down the central marble aisle, flanked by Chief Security Director Marcus Vance and Senior Corporate Prosecutor Bridget Colton, was me.
I wore my dark charcoal suit, my broad six-foot-three frame squared, radiating an untouchable, sovereign authority that dropped the room's temperature to absolute zero.
And walking right beside me, holding my hand with unshakeable grace and dignity, wearing a tailored navy wool coat, her brown hair falling in glossy waves over her shoulders, was Donna Naomi Vance-Calloway.
Behind us, held securely in the arms of two elite tactical operators, were our twin sons, Theo and Eli, watching the grand house with bright, curious eyes.
Victoria Calloway dropped her gold-plated pen.
CRASH!
The metal pen clattered flat against the marble floorboards, rolling toward my shoes as her face went from arrogant red to an ugly, paper-white shade of green.
"P-PRESTON...?! NAOMI?!" Victoria stammered, taking two panicked steps backward against the stairs. "WHAT IS THE MEANING OF THIS AMBUSH?! YOU BROUGHT THAT TEACHER INTO MY HOUSE?!"
"This isn't your house anymore, Victoria," I announced flatly, my deep baritone carrying cleanly across the vast foyer, dropping the temperature to zero. "This house belongs to the estate of Arthur Calloway... and the wife and sons you tried to murder."
Bridget Colton stepped forward, sliding a thick stack of court-stamped federal indictments flat into Richard Sterling-Smith’s trembling hands:
FIRST-DEGREE MURDER INDICTMENT: Exhumation and forensic toxicology warrants served for the death of Arthur Calloway via synthetic digitalis poisoning.
CHILD EXTORTION & FRAUD: Federal arrest warrants served on Victoria Calloway for Evidence Tampering, Forgery, and $85 Million Embezzlement from the Vance Heritage Trust.
IMMEDIATE ASSET FORFEITURE: Total seizure of all Calloway Capital accounts, private aircraft, real estate properties, and corporate voting proxies.
"THIS IS UNLAWFUL!" Victoria screamed, thrashing wildly as two uniformed state troopers stepped forward with heavy steel handcuffs. "I DID EVERYTHING FOR YOU, PRESTON! I SAVED YOU FROM THAT PENNILESS GIRL!"
"You didn't save me, Victoria," I corrected ice-cold, stepping in front of Naomi, wrapping my broad arm around my wife's waist, pulling her flush against my side. "You murdered my father, stole my sons' childhood, and turned me into a monster. And now... you spend the rest of your life in a state penitentiary."
