Chapter 5 - The War for GreenwichThe Whitmore estate in Greenwich, Connecticut, was not just a home—it was an impenetrable fortress built of stone, steel, and bulletproof glass, surrounded by three hundred acres of private woodland.

For three weeks, the underground medical wing became our world.

Under the constant care of elite doctors, little Leo gained weight rapidly. His breathing stabilized, his skin took on a healthy, rosy glow, and soon he was out of the incubator and resting securely in my arms.

Adrian barely slept.

He spent his days sitting beside Leo’s crib with his laptop, managing his global corporate empire while holding our son’s tiny bottle during feedings. Watching this lethal, intimidating man gently burp a three-pound baby over his shoulder was a sight that melted every remaining piece of ice in my heart.

However, the storm outside was reaching its peak.

On a cold Thursday evening, while I was feeding Leo in the sunlit nursery on the main floor, the heavy oak doors of Adrian's private study clicked open.

I walked past the hallway and saw Adrian standing behind his dark mahogany desk, examining a map of the Manhattan docks alongside Julian and three security team leaders.

"Marcus Moretti has liquidated his remaining assets," Julian was reporting. "He knows he’s finished. He’s planning an attack on our supply lines at Pier 42 tonight before fleeing to South America."

"He won't make it to the pier," Adrian said coldly, checking the magazine of a custom SIG Sauer pistol before chambering a round. "I'm ending this tonight."

"Adrian!" I called out, stepping into the study with Leo wrapped in a warm fleece blanket against my chest.

Adrian froze, quickly sliding the weapon under a stack of files on his desk. He looked up, his expression softening instantly.

"Lena," he said gently. "You should be resting."

"You're going after Moretti yourself?" I asked, my voice trembling with fear. "Adrian, please... you have police, you have security! Don't risk your life!"

Adrian walked around his desk, stepping close to us. He wrapped his arms around both me and Leo, resting his forehead against mine.

"Moretti threatened my wife and my son, Lena," Adrian whispered, his dark eyes burning with an absolute, deadly promise. "As long as he draws breath, you and Leo will never be completely safe. I am going to make sure that no man ever looks at my family with bad intentions again."

"Promise me you'll come back," I pleaded, holding his jacket. "Promise me, Adrian."

May you like

Adrian leaned down, pressing a deep, passionate kiss against my lips—a kiss full of hunger, promise, and eight months of lost time.

"I promise you, Lena," he murmured against my mouth. "I will always come home to you."
