Victor tried to call Sarah’s phone sixteen times that morning. Each time, Sarah watched the screen light up with his name before silently blocking the number.
By Wednesday afternoon, federal and local investigators had served a search warrant on Victor’s architectural firm and his temporary rental apartment where Rita had been staying.
According to reports Daniel relayed to Sarah over an encrypted messaging app, the collapse was total and instantaneous.
Rita has already packed her bags and vanished, Daniel texted around 4:00 PM. When the investigators questioned her about the embezzlement funds tied to the Miami venture, she threw Victor under the bus immediately, claiming he told her the money was clean inheritance.

Sarah set her teacup down on the glass table. There was no surge of triumphant glee—only a profound, deep-seated sense of closure. The infection that had slowly poisoned her life for over a decade had finally been excised, cleaner and more permanently than any surgical scalpel could manage.
On Thursday morning, Sarah received an official notice from the local court. A judge had granted an immediate emergency restraining order barring Victor from coming within five hundred feet of the Brookline property, his former office, or Sarah herself.
