Chapter 4 - The Collapse of the EmpireThe revelation detonated like a bomb inside the ancestral dining room. Aunt Helen burst into hysterical tears, staring at her daughter in absolute horror as Marissa's facade cracked entirely, revealing a snarling, panicked stranger.

"You planned this!" Marissa shrieked, slamming her hands on the table, knocking her water glass over. Water spilled across the pristine tablecloth like spreading blood. "You think you're so smart, Clara! You've always been the good little angel, but Owen never loved you! He couldn't stand your boring, predictable life!"

"Is that true, Owen?" Uncle Richard asked, his voice dangerously low as he stood up, towering over the table.

Owen couldn't speak. He looked from the enraged patriarch of the family—who also happened to control the major corporate board where Owen held his vice-presidency—to Clara, whose expression remained ice-cold.

"You're done, Owen," Richard said flatly, pulling his phone from his pocket. "I’ll call the corporate legal team. By Monday morning, your office will be cleared out, your stock options frozen under clauses of moral turpitude, and every asset tied to your name audited down to the last penny. And as for you, Marissa," Richard turned a blistering glare toward his niece, "pack your bags. You are legally and financially cut off from this family effective immediately."

Within ten minutes, the grand dining room was empty of everyone except Clara.

Owen remained slumped in his chair, staring blankly at the wall, his career, his money, and his secret life evaporating into thin air before his eyes. He looked up at Clara with broken, tear-filled eyes.

"Clara... please. We can fix this. I'll leave her. I swear to God, I'll never look at another woman—"

"Fix what, Owen?" Clara asked, standing up and sliding her coat over her shoulders. "There was never anything real to begin with. Enjoy the silence."
