Chapter 2 - The Audit of the Hidden HeiressThe room spun. The heavy scent of cedarwood, expensive bourbon, and dog fur filled my lungs as I stared at Dante Moretti in utter, speech-bound shock.

"That's impossible..." I choked out, my hands trembling against Orion’s neck. "My mother died when I was three! I grew up in state care!"

Dante didn't argue. He signaled to Marcus Vance, who slid three heavy, red-sealed binders flat onto the granite coffee table alongside a secure digital tablet.

Standing near the library doors was Senior Corporate Prosecutor Bridget Colton, wearing an immaculate charcoal tailored suit, her sharp blue eyes holding surgical professional fury.

"Miss Marshall," Bridget Colton spoke softly, her voice crisp and authoritative. "The DNA match conducted from the hair sample recovered from your locker at the restaurant this morning confirmed a 99.9% genetic link to the late Isabella Moretti-Vance."

Bridget tapped the high-definition digital screens:

THE FRAUDULENT EXCLUSION: Forensic banking audits proving Dante’s corrupt stepmother, Evelyn Moretti, forged Isabella's death certificate twenty-four years ago to suppress your fifty-one percent controlling equity in the Moretti Commercial Berths.

THE EMBEZZLEMENT LOG: Proof that Evelyn Moretti and her son, Julian Moretti, have been illegally diverting $65 million from the maritime trust into offshore accounts in Panama.

THE POISONING OF ISABELLA: Newly unsealed toxicology files showing your mother didn't die of a natural illness; she was systematically administered synthetic neural suppressants by Evelyn's private physician.

A low, terrifying growl ripped from Orion’s chest, as if the hound understood the very nature of the betrayal being laid bare.

I stood up slowly, my worn shoes sinking into the thick carpet, my hazel eyes burning with a sudden, unshakeable, diamond-hard protective rage.

"They murdered my mother," I whispered, every word falling like an iron block onto the table. "They let me starve in orphanages and work twelve-hour shifts on my feet while they lived in penthouses on my mother's legacy."

Dante stood up beside me. His broad six-foot-three frame anchored the space, his dark, dangerous aura wrapping around me like an untouchable shield.

"Evelyn and Julian believe you are dead, Olivia," Dante said, his grey eyes flashing with a cold, lethal fire. "They called an emergency board assembly for 10:00 AM tomorrow to force through the final sale of your mother's shipping berths."

He extended his broad, calloused hand toward me.

"Tomorrow morning, sweet cousin... we take back your empire."
