Chapter 6 - The UnravelingLucas’s eyes narrowed into a dark glare, though his mouth maintained its fake smile. "Margot, you’re causing a scene. Step into the foyer with me right now."

"Oh, there's no need to step out, Lucas," Margot said smoothly. She reached into her sleek black clutch and pulled out a thick manila envelope. "After all, everyone here knows how much you love legal documents."

The surrounding crowd began to whisper. Several board members and investors shuffled closer, sensing high-stakes drama.

"Margot, stop this madness!" Arthur Pendelton, the lawyer, stepped forward, his face flushed. "You are out of line!"

"Am I, Arthur?" Margot turned her gaze onto him, cool and unyielding. "Or are you referring to the documents you witnessed three nights ago? The ones where you attempted to strip me of my rightful assets using an illegal, non-binding power of attorney?"

Arthur gasped, turning pale as paper.

"What are you talking about?" Lucas snapped, his composure rapidly breaking down. "You signed those papers, Margot! You gave up your rights to the estate and the trusts! It’s done!"

"Did I?" Margot smiled—a smile that sent a shiver through Lucas’s core.

She pulled out a set of legal papers from the envelope and held them up for the crowd—and the firm’s lead investors—to see.

"This is the forensic report from the State Financial Crimes Division," Margot announced loudly. "The signatures I provided on your fraudulent documents were intentionally modified to be legally invalid. Furthermore, two hours ago, an emergency injunction froze every single account under L&M Legacy Holdings."

Melisa let out a sharp gasp, clutching Lucas's arm. "Lucas! What is she talking about? My condo! The investment funds!"

"Shut up, Melisa!" Lucas hissed, his face contorting into a mask of pure rage. He grabbed Margot by the arm, dropping all pretenses of the loving husband. "You crazy, foolish woman! You think you can ruin me? I built this life! You were nothing before me! Just a quiet little mouse writing silly books in the attic!"

Margot didn't flinch. She looked down at his hand on her arm, then raised her eyes to meet his.

"Take your hand off me, Lucas," she said softly.

The cold authority in her voice was so absolute that Lucas instinctively released his grip.

"You thought I was weak because I trusted you," Margot said, her voice echoing in the dead silent ballroom. "You mistook my kindness for stupidity, and my silence for obedience. But I didn't just write those 'silly books', Lucas. I researched criminal law, forensic accounting, and asset recovery for fifteen years. You built a house of cards... and I just pulled the bottom card."

At that exact moment, the ballroom doors opened again. Three uniformed police officers, accompanied by agents from the State Financial Securities Commission, marched into the room.

"Lucas Stephens?" the lead officer called out, stepping forward with a pair of handcuffs. "You are under arrest for grand larceny, corporate fraud, and criminal forgery."

The room erupted into gasps and flashing phone cameras. Lucas stood paralyzed as the cold steel cuffed his wrists. He looked at Melisa, but she had already backed away into the crowd, trying to distance herself from the wreckage.

Lucas turned back to Margot, his eyes wide with horror and desperate disbelief. "Margot... please... thirty-two years..."

"Yes, Lucas," Margot whispered, stepping closer to him as the officers began to lead him away. "Thirty-two years. And as you said yourself at 2:00 in the morning... 'She has no idea.' Well... now I do."
