Chapter 5 - The Snake at Pier 4By dawn, the news of the incident at the grand ballroom had detonated across New York's underground networks.

Declan Fitzpatrick had fled the ballroom under Lorenzo’s armed escort, but instead of leaving the city as ordered, he had retreated to his primary stronghold at Pier 4 in Brooklyn—a fortified shipping terminal backed by thirty armed mercenaries.
Declan believed that by provoking Mateo publicly, he could force a sloppy, emotional retaliation that would expose Mateo's distribution lines to federal authorities.
He didn't realize that Mateo Duca didn't fight with emotion. He fought with absolute, surgical finality.
At 8:00 AM, inside the high-tech tactical room of our penthouse, Mateo stood before a wall of live surveillance feeds, wearing a dark tactical jacket over his shirt.
Standing beside him, wearing a dark wool coat, reviewing shipping manifests on an encrypted tablet, was me.
Lorenzo stepped into the room, holding a satellite phone. "Boss, the perimeter teams are in position around Pier 4. Declan has fortified the main warehouse. He thinks he holds the upper hand because he brought in secondary shooters from Boston."
Mateo didn't look up from the monitor. "He thinks he's fighting a territorial dispute, Lorenzo."
Mateo turned his head, looking at me with quiet, profound respect.
"Show him what we found on the manifests, Vivienne," Mateo said smoothly.
I tapped the encrypted tablet screen, projecting live legal ownership transfers onto the primary wall monitors:
[ACQUISITION COMPLETE: DUCA ENTERPRISES ABSORBS ALL LEASE DEFAULT GUARANTEES ON PIER 4.]
[NOTICE OF FORECLOSURE: FEDERAL MARSHALS EXECUTING COMMERCIAL SEIZURE AT 0900 HOURS.]
"Declan spent three years using Pier 4 as collateral for his Boston loans, Lorenzo," I explained cleanly, my voice holding the calm, precise authority of a corporate strategist. "Thirty minutes ago, Mateo’s legal team purchased those default notes from Manhattan International. We don't need to fire a single round inside that warehouse. The federal marshals are liquidating his estate right now."
Lorenzo stared at the monitors, then looked at me, a deep, genuine smile of admiration spreading across his face.
"Donna Vivienne..." Lorenzo murmured, bowing his head respectfully. "You just stripped the Fitzpatrick family of their entire East Coast shipping network in five minutes."

Mateo reached out, wrapping his broad hand around my waist, pulling me tight against his side, his gray eyes burning with fierce, unshakeable pride.
"I told you, Lorenzo," Mateo murmured into my hair. "My wife doesn't just wear diamonds. She commands empires."
