Chapter 7 - The Crown We ForgedThree months later, the sun shone brilliantly over Lake Michigan, casting a warm, golden glow across the newly remodeled terrace of our Gold Coast estate.

The Chicago Outfit had changed.
The old ways—the silent wives kept in gilded cages, the brutal unilateral decisions made behind closed boardroom doors—were gone. Following the dismantling of Savich’s Bratva faction, the syndicate’s leadership council had undergone a radical restructuring.
And at the head of that table sat Adriana Sterling-Cross.
Down on the lawn, Leah and Dante were laughing over champagne flutes, while Camila Marino—now safely enrolled in a business management degree program under a secure Outfit scholarship—was busy organizing a catered brunch spread with the kitchen staff.
I stood by the marble balustrade, wearing a sharp, tailored ivory pantsuit, adjusting the heavy, custom-designed platinum and ruby ring resting securely on my left ring finger.
Footsteps approached from behind, and a pair of warm, strong arms wrapped around my waist, resting comfortably over my slightly rounded abdomen.
Alessandro pressed a soft kiss to the side of my neck, smiling as he looked out over the sparkling lake.
“The board meeting went well, I take it?” Alessandro asked, his voice low and amused.
“Extremely well,” I smiled, leaning back against his chest. “I just restructured our European shipping logistics and forced three of the older capos to apologize to Leah for doubting her medical clearance protocols.”
Alessandro chuckled, resting his chin on my shoulder. “You’re terrifying when you run a syndicate, you know that?”
“I learned from the best,” I replied, turning around in his embrace and looping my arms around his neck. “Though I have to admit, your security protocols need work. Your wife had to crawl through a sewage drain to save your life.”

“A mistake I promise never to repeat,” Alessandro murmured, his dark eyes darkening with sudden, fierce devotion. He leaned down, capturing my lips in a deep, lingering kiss that tasted like victory, survival, and a future built entirely on our own terms.
Around us, the city of Chicago stretched out beneath the spring sky—vast, dangerous, and utterly conquered. We hadn't just survived the betrayal; we had forged a dynasty out of the ashes. And nobody would ever dare try to break us again.
