Chapter 6 - The Gala of the Starry NightIn late September 2026, the grand ballroom of the Oakwood Hills Country Club was packed to absolute capacity for the inaugural Blackwood Twins Pediatric Foundation Gala.

Over five hundred prominent community leaders, supreme court justices, high-ranking law enforcement officers, and corporate executives gathered beneath sparkling crystal chandeliers.
Standing at the main presentation podium, wearing a dark navy tailored suit, her silver detective badge gleaming proudly on her lapel, was me.
Beside the stage sat four-year-old Emily and Sarah, looking like little angels in matching dark blue velvet dresses with star-patterned sashes, their brown eyes bright, healthy, and unbroken.
And standing on my right, wearing a charcoal bespoke tuxedo, his handsome face glowing with deep, quiet pride, was Robert Blackwood.
Robert stepped up to the microphone beside me, wrapping his broad arm around his daughters as they ran up to hug his legs, his voice echoing cleanly through the high-fidelity speakers:
"Ten months ago, on a freezing night at nineteen degrees, my daughters were left in the dark by someone who was supposed to protect them," Robert announced to the silent room, his eyes shining with genuine, unshakeable devotion as he looked at me. "And on that night, a brave police officer pulled them into the warmth, stood up against corruption, and brought my entire world back to the light."
Robert held his champagne glass high under the glittering lights.
