Chapter 3 - The Assembly at the Grand BallroomAt 10:00 AM the following morning, the grand mahogany assembly hall atop the forty-story Manhattan Financial Center was packed to absolute capacity.

Over four hundred prominent real estate magnates, shipping executives, municipal judges, and high-society matriarchs gathered beneath sparkling crystal chandeliers for the annual Whitaker-Rowan Heritage Assembly.

Sitting at the head of the raised executive table, wearing an ivory designer dress, holding a gold fountain pen, was thirty-two-year-old Celeste Rowan. Beside her sat her corrupt father, Arthur Rowan, smirking as they prepared to sign corporate merger papers that would absorb Julian’s remaining trust berths into their shell firm.

"Gentlemen!" Celeste announced smoothly into the central microphone, her voice dripping with condescending elegance, "today we ratify the administrative consolidation of the Whitaker Logistics Berths under the joint proxy of Rowan Global—"

BOOM!

The heavy double oak doors of the executive assembly hall were thrown open with a violent, hydraulic impact!

The chatter of four hundred high-society guests vanished into an absolute, speech-bound silence.

Walking down the central red-carpeted aisle, flanked by Chief Security Director Marcus Vance and four armed federal marshals, was Grant Whitaker.

I wore a magnificent dark charcoal bespoke suit, my broad six-foot-four frame squared, radiating an untouchable, sovereign authority that dropped the room's temperature to absolute zero.

And walking right beside me, wearing a breathtaking floor-length dark emerald silk suit that celebrated her graceful figure, her dark hair falling in glossy waves over her shoulders, holding five-year-old Lily securely by her hand, was Donna Hannah Brooks-Whitaker.

Little Lily wore a beautiful white velvet dress with a red bow, her bright hazel-green eyes glowing, her small hand holding her mother's with quiet, unbroken pride.

Celeste Rowan dropped her gold fountain pen.

CRASH!

The heavy metal pen clattered flat against the mahogany table, rolling onto the floor as her face went from arrogant red to an ugly, paper-white shade of green. Arthur Rowan stood up so fast he knocked his leather chair backward against the wall.

"C-CELESTE...?! GRANT?! HANNAH?!" Arthur stammered, taking two panicked steps backward against the window. "WHAT IS THIS ILL-MANNERED INTERRUPTING?! SHE IS JUST A HOUSEMAID!"

"She isn't a housemaid, Arthur," I announced flatly, my deep baritone carrying cleanly across the vast room, dropping the temperature to zero. "She is the Executive Chairwoman of the Julian Whitaker Memorial Trust... and the mother of the sole heiress to my empire."

Bridget Colton stepped forward, sliding a thick stack of court-stamped legal notices flat into Celeste Rowan’s trembling hands:

TOTAL MARITIME RECOVERY: Certified federal enforcement of the Whitaker Trust Deeds, transferring fifty-one percent controlling common stock equity directly to Chairwoman Hannah Brooks-Whitaker and Lily Whitaker.

ARREST WARRANTS: International arrest warrants served on Celeste Rowan and Arthur Rowan for Premeditated Medical Sabotage, Extortion, Identity Concealment, and $28 Million Wire Fraud.

IMMEDIATE EVICTION: Total forfeiture of all personal properties, luxury vehicles, and bank accounts registered under Rowan Global.

"THIS IS UNLAWFUL!" Celeste shrieked, thrashing wildly as two uniformed federal marshals stepped forward with heavy steel handcuffs. "GRANT, I AM YOUR FIANCÉE! YOU CAN'T DO THIS TO ME FOR A SERVANT!"

"You stopped being my fiancée the night you turned off the heat on a five-year-old child," I corrected deadpan, stepping beside Hannah and Lily, wrapping my broad, warm arm securely around Hannah's waist, pulling her flush against my side. "Now you pay for my brother's memory."

Celeste Rowan and Arthur Rowan thrashed and wept hysterical, groveling pleas as marshals locked heavy steel cuffs around their wrists behind their backs, dragging them out of the Manhattan Financial Center in total, public disgrace, while news cameras captured their complete downfall for the morning news.
