Chapter 5 - The Corporate ExecutionThe board meeting at Callahan Development’s downtown headquarters on Michigan Avenue was scheduled for 9:00 AM sharp.

When Ronan and I stepped off the private elevator onto the penthouse floor, the atmosphere in the executive boardroom was so thick you could have cut it with a knife. The senior partners—men in bespoke Italian suits who had served under Ronan for decades—sat around the massive granite table in absolute, terrified silence.
And sitting near the foot of the table, looking like a cornered animal, was Finn.
He had aged five years in four days. Dark circles bruised the skin beneath his eyes, his tie was slightly crooked, and his hands shook as he gripped a leather folio binder. Standing behind him was Meredith Shaw, her sophisticated mask slipping into a tight, desperate sneer as we walked in.
"What is the meaning of this?" Finn burst out, standing up so fast his chair screeched across the hardwood floor. "Dad, you can't bring her here! This is a restricted board meeting! She has no legal standing in Callahan Development!"
Ronan didn't even break his stride. He walked straight to the head of the mahogany table, pulled out the massive leather chair for me, and waited until I was seated before taking his own place beside me.
"Sit down, Finn," Ronan said, his voice dangerously quiet. "And learn how a real executive conducts business."
"She’s a gold-digger!" Meredith snapped, stepping forward from the wall, her polished facade finally shattering entirely. "She couldn't trap the son, so she hopped into the father's bed for a paycheck! Everyone in this city is laughing at you, Ronan!"
Viktor, standing quietly by the double doors, didn't even wait for a command. He took two steps forward, his massive frame cutting off Meredith's path, his hand resting casually inside his jacket. Meredith shrank back, her face flushing crimson.
"Lara isn't here as a guest, Meredith," Ronan said smoothly, opening a thick manila folder and sliding copies across the granite table toward the senior partners. "She’s here as the primary majority shareholder of the Abbott-Callahan Trust."
Finn’s jaw dropped. He snatched one of the papers off the table, his eyes scanning the legal seals and signatures.
"This... this is impossible!" Finn screamed, his voice cracking with hysteria. "Grandpa's trust went to the primary bloodline! You can't just transfer voting shares to a—to a stranger!"
"She's not a stranger, Finn," Ronan said, locking eyes with his son with a gaze so cold it made the air in the room freeze. "She's my wife. And under the bylaws of this corporation, my wife holds executive veto power over every subsidiary my family owns."
He leaned forward, resting his forearms on the table.
"Which brings us to the second item on the agenda," Ronan continued, his voice dropping into a lethal purr. "The internal audit of Callahan Development’s harbor district acquisitions. Specifically, the zoning leaks that have been funneled to competitive firms over the last six months."
Meredith’s face went completely, ghostly white.
Viktor stepped forward again, dropping a thick stack of printed email logs, bank wire receipts, and encrypted messaging transcripts directly onto the table in front of her.
"Here are the communications between Meredith Shaw and an unauthorized shell company in the Cayman Islands," Ronan said flatly. "And attached to them... are financial disbursements signed off by executive vice president Finn Callahan."
Finn stared down at the papers, his hands trembling so violently he dropped the folder. "I—I didn't know! She made me sign them! Meredith told me it was just standard partnership paperwork!"
"You signed away the company's port access to our primary competitor because a woman old enough to be your mother flattered your ego," Ronan said with absolute, crushing contempt. "You aren't a businessman, Finn. You're a liability."
"Dad—please!" Finn choked out, stumbling around the table, falling to his knees beside Ronan’s chair, grabbing pathetically at his father’s trouser leg. "Don't do this! Don't cut me off! I'm your son!"
Ronan looked down at him with the cold, detached pity one might reserve for a stray dog with rabies. He slowly pulled his leg away, standing up so tall that Finn looked like nothing more than a stain on the Persian rug.
"My son died the moment he forgot whose name he was carrying," Ronan said softly. "Viktor. Escort Mr. Callahan and Ms. Shaw out of my building. Revoke their keycards, freeze their corporate accounts, and make sure every security desk from here to the loop knows they are permanently banned from all Callahan properties."
"No! No, you can't do this!" Finn shrieked as Viktor grabbed him effortlessly by the collar, hauling him up like a rag doll. Meredith bolted for the door on her own, her dignity completely in tatters.
As the double doors slammed shut behind them, cutting off Finn’s pathetic wailing down the hallway, absolute silence settled back over the boardroom.
Ronan turned back to the terrified senior partners, his face impassive.

"Meeting adjourned," he said smoothly.
Within ninety seconds, the boardroom was completely empty, save for Ronan and me.
