Chapter 6 - The Festival of the Golden CradleIn late September 2027, ten months after that terrifying night behind the warehouse, the grand auditorium of the Plaza Hotel in Chicago was packed to absolute capacity for the inaugural Maya & Elena Vance Heritage & Survivor Gala.

Over five hundred prominent business leaders, supreme court justices, federal prosecutors, and high-society matriarchs gathered beneath sparkling crystal chandeliers.
On a private velvet pedestal near the presentation podium rested a beautifully framed silver pendant depicting a warm sun breaking through winter snow—a symbol of sovereign victory and unbroken grace.
Standing at the main presentation podium, wearing a dark bespoke charcoal tuxedo, my broad six-foot-four frame squared, my handsome face glowing with deep, quiet pride, holding ten-month-old Maya and Elena in my arms, was me.
Beside me stood Donna Clara Bennett-Vance, looking breathtaking in a floor-length dark emerald silk evening gown that celebrated her graceful, fully healed figure, her hazel eyes glowing with complete happiness.
Around Clara’s neck hung my late mother’s restored gold signet pendant.
I adjusted the microphone, my deep, resonant baritone echoing cleanly through the high-fidelity speakers:
"Ten months ago, two arrogant monsters tortured my brother's widow, dumped her and twin newborns into a freezing snowstorm, and expected them to die," I announced to the silent room, my gray eyes shining with genuine, unshakeable emotion as I looked down at Clara and my nieces. "And on that night, a brave queen took the freezing wind against her own back to keep her children alive, claimed her sovereign birthright, and brought my entire world back to the light."
I held my champagne glass high under the glittering lights.

"To my Chairwoman, my savior, and the queen of our family: Donna Clara Bennett-Vance!"
"To Clara!" the entire room erupted into a warm, unanimous standing ovation, five hundred crystal glasses clinking together under the open sky.
