Chapter 4 - The Price of ArroganceThe atmosphere in Marino’s Table shifted instantly from quiet shock to intense, dramatic silence.

Vanessa stepped forward, her high heels clicking loudly against the hardwood floor. The disappointment and contempt that had filled her face thirty minutes ago had completely vanished, replaced by a wild, desperate, wide-eyed ambition.
She had clearly walked outside, seen the fifty-thousand-dollar Corolla parked beside a quarter-million-dollar armored Maybach with dark tinted windows and a private security driver, asked a question, and realized the catastrophic mistake she had just made.
"Alexander?" Vanessa gasped, rushing toward table twelve, her voice dripping with artificial warmth and breathless excitement. "Alexander... oh my God! Is that... is that your car outside? The valet said you own Bellacort Medical!"
Marcus stepped smoothly into her path, his broad, six-foot-two frame forming an impenetrable wall between Vanessa and me.
"Ma'am, please step back," Marcus commanded, his voice cold as steel.
"Get out of my way!" Vanessa snapped, trying to peer around Marcus's shoulder, her face flushed red with manic energy. "Alexander! I'm so sorry! I... I didn't realize! I thought you were testing me! Why didn't you just tell me who you were?!"
I stood beside Cassie, looking at Vanessa over Marcus’s shoulder with cold, unbothered detachment.
"I didn't tell you who I was because I wanted to see who you were, Vanessa," I said, my voice carrying effortlessly through the silent restaurant. "And you showed me. You showed me that a man without a title isn't worth your respect, that a struggling worker is something to be mocked, and that pouring ice water on someone is acceptable as long as you think they can't fight back."
Vanessa’s face went dead pale. She looked at the wet patch on my jeans, then at the towel Cassie was still holding, and finally at Gordon Pike, who was standing frozen behind the presenter, looking at her with pure, unadulterated hatred.
"Alexander, please!" Vanessa pleaded, her voice cracking into a desperate squeak. "I was just stressed! My day was terrible! I didn't mean any of those things I said! Please... let's sit down and start over! We can order a fresh bottle of wine!"
"The wine has already been paid for," I replied smoothly. "And the table is closed."
I looked at Gordon Pike.
"Mr. Pike," I said calmly.
Pike practically jumped out of his shoes. "Yes, Mr. Bellacort, sir?!"
"Miss Langford spilled a full glass of ice water on a guest, disturbed the dining room, and harassed my party," I stated, my tone sharp and final. "In accordance with your establishment's standard management protocol... please escort her off the premises."
Pike’s eyes lit up with sudden, vengeful purpose. It was his chance to redeem himself in my eyes, and he seized it like a drowning man grabbing a life preserver.
"With pleasure, Mr. Bellacort!" Pike declared loudly. He snapped his fingers, and two broad-shouldered busboys instantly stepped up beside him. Pike turned to Vanessa, his face hardening into absolute steel. "Miss Langford, you heard the gentleman. Your presence is no longer welcome at Marino’s Table. Move along, or I will have the precinct officers outside remove you for criminal trespass."
"What?!" Vanessa shrieked, backing away as the two busboys stepped forward, blocking her path. "You can't do this to me! Do you know who I am?!"
"I know you're someone who just lost the biggest opportunity of her life," Pike sneered, gesturing sharply toward the double doors. "Out. Now."
The entire restaurant watched in utter, glorious silence as Vanessa Langford was firmly escorted out the front doors into the cold night air, her high heels clicking frantically, her screaming voice cut off as the heavy glass doors slammed shut behind her.

I turned back to Cassie, who was watching the scene with a mixture of shock and quiet, undeniable satisfaction.
"Now," I smiled gently, offering her my arm. "Shall we go see your father?"
