Chapter 6 - The Festival of the Crescent MoonIn late September 2026, the grand ballroom of the Drake Hotel in Chicago was packed to absolute capacity for the inaugural Elena Bennett-Mancini Academic & Civic Gala.

Over five hundred prominent business leaders, supreme court justices, federal prosecutors, and high-society matriarchs gathered beneath sparkling crystal chandeliers.
Standing at the main presentation podium, wearing a dark bespoke tuxedo, his broad six-foot-four frame squared, his handsome face glowing with deep, quiet pride, was me.
Beside me stood my seventeen-year-old daughter, Elena, looking breathtaking in a silver lace evening gown, her dark hair falling over her shoulders, her bright brown eyes shining with intelligence, the small crescent-shaped scar beneath her left eye sparkling like a mark of absolute victory.
And standing on my right, wearing a floor-length dark emerald silk dress, holding my hand with a warm, unbreakable grip, was Sofia.
I adjusted the microphone, my deep, resonant baritone echoing cleanly through the high-fidelity speakers:
"Seventeen years ago, I believed I had lost the only woman I ever loved," I announced to the silent room, my gray eyes shining with genuine, unshakeable emotion. "And seventeen nights ago, a miracle brought my blood back into my veins... and gave me the daughter I had prayed for my entire life."
I held my champagne glass high under the glittering lights.

"To Sofia and Elena!" the entire room erupted into a warm, unanimous standing ovation, five hundred crystal glasses clinking together under the open sky.
