Chapter 3 - The Assembly at the Marble HallAt 10:00 AM the following morning, the soaring marble ballroom of the Grand Drake Hotel in downtown Chicago was packed to absolute capacity for the annual Mancini Syndicate Heritage Assembly.

Over three hundred prominent business magnates, syndicate leaders, city officials, and high-society reporters gathered beneath sparkling crystal chandeliers.

Sitting at the head of the raised executive table, wearing a dark velvet suit, holding a gold-headed cane, was sixty-eight-year-old Dominic Mancini—my arrogant, greedy uncle. Beside him sat Don Sal D'Amico and his son, Julian D'Amico, who wore expensive suits, smirking as they prepared to sign the corporate merger papers.

"Gentlemen," Dominic announced smoothly into the microphone, his voice dripping with aristocratic deceit, "today we celebrate twenty years of Mancini commercial dominance over the Midwest, while finalizing our joint logistics union with the D'Amico Syndicate—"

BOOM!

The heavy double oak doors of the ballroom were thrown open with a violent, hydraulic impact!

Walking down the central red-carpeted aisle, flanked by Chief Security Director Marcus Vance and four armed federal marshals, was me.

I wore a magnificent charcoal bespoke tuxedo, my tall six-foot-four frame radiating an untouchable, sovereign authority that dropped the room's temperature to absolute zero.

And walking right beside me, wearing a breathtaking floor-length dark navy silk gown that celebrated her elegant, mature beauty, holding the original Mancini Family Trust deeds openly against her chest, was Sofia Bennett.

Dominic dropped his pen. His face went from arrogant red to an ugly, paper-white shade of green.

"L-LUCA...?! SOFIA?!" Dominic stammered, taking two frantic steps backward, his gold cane clattering against the floorboards. "WHAT IS THIS AMBUSH?! THAT WOMAN WAS EVICTED SEVENTEEN YEARS AGO!"

"She wasn't evicted, Dominic," I announced flatly, my deep baritone carrying cleanly across the silent ballroom, silencing three hundred people instantly. "She was hidden... to protect my daughter from your poison."

Bridget Colton stepped forward, sliding a thick stack of court-stamped legal notices flat into Sal D'Amico’s trembling hands:

TOTAL CORPORATE SEIZURE: Certified enforcement of the original Mancini Trust Deeds, transferring fifty-one percent controlling common stock equity in Mancini Global directly to Elena Bennett-Mancini.

THE MEDICAL FRAUD INDICTMENT: Federal arrest warrants served on Dr. Adrian Vale for falsifying Luca Mancini’s medical records and conspiracy to commit fraud.

MURDER & CONSPIRACY WARRANTS: Federal arrest warrants served on Dominic Mancini and Sal D'Amico for Attempted First-Degree Murder, Highway Sabotage, and Interstate Wire Fraud.

Dominic fell flat onto his knees behind the table, his gold cane clattering against the floor, his breath coming in ragged, hysterical gasps.

"THIS IS UNLAWFUL!" Sal D'Amico thundered, thrashing as federal marshals stepped forward with heavy steel handcuffs. "YOU HAVE NO PROOF OF HIGHWAY SABOTAGE!"

"We have the dashcam footage from the semi-truck, Sal," Marcus Vance declared coldly.

CLICK. CLICK.

Julian D'Amico thrashed and wept hysterical, pathetic tears as marshals served him with civil asset seizure notices, evicting his family from their luxury estates on the spot while news cameras captured their complete, public downfall for the morning news.

Dominic thrashed against his cuffs, looking up at me with frantic, groveling pleas: "Luca! Please! I am your blood! I am your father's brother!"

May you like

I looked down at my uncle with an absolute, clean, weightless disgust.

"You tried to kill my seventeen-year-old daughter to steal my father's money, Dominic," I answered softly, my voice cold as winter ice. "Now you can spend the rest of your miserable life rotting in a federal cell."
