Chapter 5 - The Fall of Sophia LaneWhile I knelt weeping on the hospital floor, the secondary fallout from my arrogance detonated across Denver and New York like a series of targeted warheads.

At 8:00 AM that morning, Sophia Lane sat inside the luxurious three-bedroom penthouse I had rented for her on Fifth Avenue in Manhattan.
She wore a silk robe, sipping expensive espresso, admiring the eighty-six thousand dollar Cartier diamond bracelet sparkling on her wrist, while watching the morning news on her wide-screen television.
DING-DONG!
The heavy mahogany front door of the penthouse chimed loudly.
Sophia smiled, assuming it was her private catering delivery. She glided across the hardwood floorboards, opening the door.
Standing on the threshold were four uniformed Federal Marshals and two representatives from Vance Global Property Management.
"Miss Sophia Lane?" the lead marshal asked flatly.
Sophia frowned, touching her hair. "Yes? What is this about? Do you know who pays the rent for this building? Ethan Black—"
"This building was acquired three hours ago by The Clara Vance Irrevocable Trust," the lead representative interjected coldly, holding out a master eviction decree. "And under emergency judicial forfeiture orders, all personal property acquired through embezzled corporate funds—including that jewelry on your wrist—is under immediate federal seizure."
Sophia’s face went paper-white. "SEIZURE?! YOU CAN'T TAKE MY BRACELET! ETHAN BOUGHT THIS FOR MY BIRTHDAY!"
"Ethan Black purchased that bracelet using corporate line-of-credit accounts owned by Vance Global," the marshal explained, pulling a pair of heavy steel handcuffs from his belt. "And because those funds were transferred illegally across state lines, you are being named as a co-conspirator in a federal wire fraud investigation."
CLICK. CLICK.

The steel cuffs locked around Sophia’s wrists behind her back as she shrieked hysterically, her silk robe rustling violently as she thrashed against the marshals, being dragged out of the luxury penthouse in total, public disgrace.
Every gift, every account, every apartment, and every dollar I had given her was systematically reclaimed by Arthur Vance’s legal machine within twelve hours.
