Chapter 3 - The Boardroom of IronBy 10:45 PM, the fifty-story glass tower of Castle Maritime Holdings on the Chicago riverfront was wrapped in high-level security.

Armored vehicles lined the private plaza. Fifty broad-shouldered enforcers in tailored dark suits secured every lobby door, elevator bank, and executive floor.
I was guided into the executive suite adjoining the main boardroom. A private team of female stylists brought me an exquisite dark navy silk pantsuit, tailored footwear, and refreshed my dark hair, transforming me from a harassed event coordinator into an imposing executive figure.
Down on my right hand, Victor personally slipped a heavy gold guest badge bearing the Official Seal of Castle Maritime.
"You stay by my side, Hazel," Victor instructed, wearing a fresh tailored black suit over his bandaged ribs, adjusting his silver cufflinks. "Tonight, you are not a witness. You are the lead auditor who delivered the missing logs."
I looked at him in the mirror, my posture tall, straight, and unbroken. "I manage multi-million-dollar galas for a living, Mr. Castle. Dealing with arrogant men who think they own the room is my specialty."
Victor offered a low, dark laugh that vibrated with genuine pride. "Then let's go break some egos."
The double oak doors of the central boardroom were thrown wide open.
Inside, thirty senior board members, regional shipping directors, and syndicate family heads sat around a forty-foot obsidian conference table.
Sitting at the head of the table, holding a glass of scotch, looking smug and victorious, was Julian Vance.
"Ladies and gentlemen," Julian announced loudly, tapping his glass with a fountain pen. "As you know, our former chairman Victor Castle was involved in a tragic, fatal security incident at the Grand Meridian Hotel an hour ago. Under company bylaws, I move to assume full executive control—"
BOOM!
The doors slammed against the wall.
Victor Castle walked into the room, flanked by me, Marcus Vance, and senior litigator Bridget Colton.
Julian dropped his scotch glass. The crystal shattered flat against the obsidian table, golden liquor splashing across his silk tie.
Every single director in the room stood up in total, shocked silence.
"Victor?!" Julian stammered, his face turning an ugly, paper-white shade of green. "You... you're dead! The team reported—"
"The team reported what you paid them to say, Julian," Victor interrupted flatly, his baritone echoing like thunder through the silent room.
Bridget Colton stepped forward, opening a leather binder, projecting high-definition digital logs onto the room's forty-foot wall screens:
THE TERMINAL FRAUD: Certified audit files showing Julian Vance embezzling $140 million through fraudulent port leasing fees in Brooklyn and Chicago.
THE HIT ORDER: Encrypted satellite audio recordings from twenty minutes prior, capturing Julian ordering the tactical strike team to eliminate Victor and any civilian witnesses in room 4201.
THE TABLET TAMPERING: Digital footprint logs showing Julian's team hacking Luminara Events' server to send Hazel Brooks into the crossfire.
Julian thrashed against his chair, sweating profusely, screaming at the board. "THAT'S FABRICATED EVIDENCE! HE'S A MOBSTER! YOU CAN'T BELIEVE HIM!"
I stepped forward, my voice crisp, cool, and ringing with absolute authority.
"I am Hazel Brooks, Lead Senior Coordinator at Luminara Events," I announced, looking straight into Julian's panicked eyes. "I personally logged the altered room assignment timestamp at 9:14 PM from your IP address. The Federal Bureau of Investigation and the District Attorney's office were served with this certified digital packet twelve minutes ago."
Two armed federal marshals stepped through the side doors, holding heavy steel handcuffs.
"Julian Vance," Lead Marshal Miller declared. "You are under arrest for Attempted Murder, Corporate Fraud, Wire Fraud, and Systemic Racketeering."

The cold steel cuffs locked tightly around Julian's wrists behind his back.
He thrashed and shrieked as federal marshals dragged him out of the boardroom in total, public disgrace, his high-society standing permanently obliterated.
