Chapter 4 - The Unmasking at the Blackwood GalaAt 10:00 AM the following morning, the grand mahogany ballroom of the Drake Hotel in downtown Chicago was packed to absolute capacity for the annual Blackwood Enterprise Heritage Assembly.

Over four hundred prominent business magnates, city officials, supreme court justices, and high-society reporters gathered beneath sparkling crystal chandeliers.
Sitting at the head of the elevated executive table, wearing a dark lavender Chanel suit, her fingers heavy with diamond rings, was sixty-two-year-old Eleanor Blackwood. Beside her sat her corrupt legal advisor, Richard Sterling, and her arrogant socialite niece, Victoria, who was admiring her manicured nails.
"Gentlemen!" Eleanor announced smoothly into the microphone, her voice dripping with aristocratic condescension, "today we celebrate thirty years of Blackwood dominance over Midwest real estate, while authorizing the new Riverfront Development—"
BOOM!
The heavy double oak doors of the ballroom were thrown open with a violent, hydraulic impact!
Walking down the central red-carpeted aisle, flanked by Chief Security Director Marcus Vance and four federal marshals, was me.
I wore a crisp charcoal bespoke suit, my broad frame squared, my dark eyes burning with an untouchable, sovereign authority that dropped the room's temperature to absolute zero.
And walking right beside me, wearing a breathtaking floor-length dark emerald silk gown that celebrated her elegant figure, holding our twin sons—Theo and Eli—by their hands, was Naomi.
The twins wore matching navy blazers and khaki trousers, looking remarkably sharp, intelligent, and dignified.
Eleanor dropped her champagne glass.
CRASH!
The glass shattered flat against the parquet floorboards, sparkling wine splashing over her designer shoes. Her face went from arrogant red to an ugly, paper-white shade of green. Her gold-ringed hands trembled violently as she backed up against her velvet chair.
"P-PRESTON...?! NAOMI?!" Eleanor stammered, taking two frantic steps backward. "WHAT IS THIS AMBUSH?! WHY ARE THOSE... THOSE PEOPLE HERE?!"
"They aren't 'those people', Mother," I announced flatly, my deep baritone carrying cleanly across the silent ballroom, silencing four hundred people instantly. "They are my wife, Donna Naomi Bennett-Blackwood, and my twin sons, Theo and Eli... the rightful owners of everything you stole."
Bridget Colton stepped forward, sliding a thick stack of court-stamped legal notices flat into Richard Sterling’s trembling hands:
TOTAL ASSET SEIZURE: Federal enforcement of the Bennett Maritime Trust, transferring fifty-one percent controlling equity in Blackwood Enterprise directly to Naomi Bennett-Blackwood.
THE FORGERY INDICTMENT: Federal arrest warrants served on Eleanor Blackwood and Richard Sterling for Interstate Wire Fraud, Forgery, and Systemic Embezzlement.
CRIMINAL CONSPIRACY WARRANTS: Arrest warrants served on Eleanor for extortion and illegal surveillance against Naomi Bennett.
Eleanor fell flat onto her knees behind the table, her hands clutching at the tablecloth, groveling frantically as federal marshals stepped forward with heavy steel handcuffs.
"PRESTON! NO! PLEASE!" Eleanor shrieked, reaching her trembling hands out toward me. "I AM YOUR MOTHER! I DID IT FOR THE FAMILY! FOR OUR NAME!"
I looked down at the woman who had spent twenty years destroying lives for money, feeling nothing but an absolute, clean, weightless disgust.
"You didn't do it for the family, Eleanor," I answered softly, every word falling like an iron block. "You did it for your own greed. And now you can spend the rest of your life reflecting on it in a federal cell."

Victoria thrashed and wept hysterical, pathetic tears as marshals served her with immediate civil asset forfeiture notices, evicting her from her luxury estate on the spot while news cameras captured their complete, public downfall for the morning news.
