Chapter 3 - The War in Room 402The following morning, Courtroom 402 of the New York State Supreme Court was packed to capacity.

Reporters from every major media network sat in the back pews, their camera lenses trained on the defense table where Adrian Blackwell sat, wearing an orange jumpsuit instead of his usual tailored Tom Ford suits. His hair was unwashed, his posture slouched, but his eyes were still filled with arrogance.
Beside him sat Harrison Cole, a legendary criminal defense attorney known for getting high-profile billionaires off on technicalities.
On the other side of the room, I sat quietly beside Clara and District Attorney Marcus Brody. I wore a high-collared navy blue suit that covered my neck and arms, my posture straight and dignified.
"Your Honor," Harrison Cole began, standing up and buttoning his suit jacket with effortless confidence. "This entire prosecution is a circus orchestrated by a bitter, emotionally unstable woman. My client, Mr. Adrian Blackwell, is a respected civic leader and CEO. The allegations of domestic abuse presented at the cathedral yesterday were staged using manipulated media to humiliate my client during a private dispute."
Judge Eleanor Vance—no relation to my father, but a notoriously tough judge—eyebrow raised. "Manipulated media, Mr. Cole?"
"Yes, Your Honor," Cole insisted, pulling a stack of papers from his leather bag. "We have an expert witness ready to testify that the video footage displayed at the wedding was synthesized using deep-fake algorithms. Furthermore, Ms. Vance has spent the last year secretly funneling funds out of Blackwell Capital, proving her true motive is financial sabotage."
Adrian smirked at me from across the aisle, winking subtly as his lawyer spoke. He truly believed his money and his high-priced legal team could twist the truth until it disappeared.
"Does the State wish to respond?" Judge Vance asked, looking over her half-moon spectacles at District Attorney Brody.
Brody stood up calmly. "The State calls Dr. Aris Thorne to the stand."
A tall, sharp-eyed woman in a tailored gray suit stepped forward, taking the oath.
"Dr. Thorne," Brody said, "please state your qualifications for the court."
"I am the Senior Director of Digital Forensics for the Federal Bureau of Investigation," Dr. Thorne stated clearly. "I specialize in biometric authentication and video verification."
"Did you analyze the security footage provided by Ms. Evelyn Vance?"
"I did," Dr. Thorne testified, opening a digital tablet. "We performed a frame-by-frame cryptographic verification of the raw video files recovered from the Blackwell penthouse and headquarters servers. The files carry immutable blockchain timestamps directly linked to the hardware security modules of the building. There is zero evidence of manipulation, deep-fake technology, or digital alteration."
Dr. Thorne turned her head, looking directly at Adrian.
"Furthermore," she continued, "we cross-referenced the physical injuries sustained by Ms. Vance during her hospital visit on November 14th with the exact physical impact vectors captured on the elevator video. They match with one hundred percent scientific certainty."
Murmurs rippled through the courtroom. Harrison Cole’s smile faltered.
"And what about the audio recording found on the ring micro-card?" Brody asked.
"The voice frequency analysis confirms beyond a shadow of a doubt that the voice demanding Richard Vance sign over his assets belongs to Adrian Blackwell," Dr. Thorne concluded. "The secondary voice in the room belongs to his mother, Vanessa Blackwell."
Judge Vance slammed her gavel down to quiet the murmuring crowd.
"Mr. Cole," Judge Vance said, her voice dripping with ice. "Do you have any further arguments regarding the authenticity of the State's evidence?"
Cole stammered, his confident demeanor crumbling. "Your Honor... we... we request a thirty-day continuance to review these findings—"
"Request denied," Judge Vance snapped. "In light of the overwhelming physical, digital, and forensic evidence presented today, as well as the severity of the charges including First-Degree Murder, bail is hereby DENIED. The defendant will remain in custody at Rikers Island pending trial."
Adrian bolted up from his chair. "You can't do this! I am Adrian Blackwell! Evelyn, tell them! Tell them to stop!"

As the court officers grabbed him and began dragging him toward the holding cell behind the bench, I slowly stood up, walked to the center railing, and looked him straight in the eyes.
"The story is over, Adrian," I whispered. "And you don't get to write the ending."
