Chapter 1 - The Altar of TruthThe air inside St. Jude’s Cathedral was so quiet that the faint hum of the air conditioning sounded like a low roar.

Adrian Blackwell stood frozen beside the marble altar, the cold steel of the detective's handcuffs gleaming in the soft light streaming through the stained-glass windows.
"Officers! She’s lying! She’s mentally unstable!" Adrian screamed, his voice cracking as the polished facade he had maintained for five years finally shattered into pieces. "She compiled these videos using artificial intelligence! My mother—Vanessa—tell them! Tell them this is a frame-job!"
In the front row, Vanessa Blackwell was already pinned against the carved oak pew by a federal agent. Her champagne-colored hat had fallen off, her manicured hands trembling as she glared at me with pure, unadulterated venom.
"You ungrateful little rat," Vanessa spat, her voice echoing off the vaulted ceilings. "We took you in after your father died! We gave you a home! We gave you a name!"
"You gave me a cage, Vanessa," I said, my voice steady and crystal clear through the wireless microphone. "And you used my father’s money to pay for the bars."
Detective Sarah Ramirez stepped onto the altar platform. She glanced at the massive projection screen behind us, where the video of Adrian shoving me into the concrete wall of his executive office was still playing on a seamless loop, timestamped precisely four months ago.
"Adrian Blackwell," Detective Ramirez said, pulling Adrian’s arms firmly behind his back. "You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can and will be used against you in a court of law. You have the right to an attorney—"
"I am the managing partner of Blackwell Capital!" Adrian roared, flinching as the steel cuffs clicked tightly over his wrists. "My attorneys will have you stripped of your badge before sunset, Ramirez!"
"Your attorneys won't even take your calls by sunset, Mr. Blackwell," I said softly, stepping closer to him.
I held up the tiny, encrypted silver memory card I had retrieved from the velvet ring box. The light caught its micro-circuitry.
Adrian’s breath hitched. His eyes widened until the whites showed around his dark pupils.
"Where... where did you find that?" Adrian whispered, his arrogant composure instantly evaporating into raw terror. "I burned his laptop... I destroyed the drive in his study..."
"My father was a senior systems engineer, Adrian," I replied, my voice dropping into a razor-sharp whisper meant only for him. "He knew that if anything ever happened to him, you and your mother would try to erase his work. He didn't save the confession file on his drive. He hid a mirrored backup inside the micro-chip of my mother’s heirloom diamond ring—the very ring you forced onto my finger when we got engaged."
A collective gasp swept through the four hundred guests sitting in the pews. Among them were city council members, corporate board executives, and foreign investors. Phones were pulled out; live-streams were running. The story of the Blackwell family’s golden boy being arrested at the altar was already spreading across news feeds worldwide.
As the officers dragged Adrian down the center aisle past his horrified high-society friends, he turned his head, locking eyes with me one last time.

"I survived you, Adrian," I said into the microphone, my eyes unwavering. "A courtroom will be a vacation."
