Chapter 4 - Touchdown in MiamiThe descent into Miami International Airport was bumpy, the aircraft dipping through thick, gray cloud cover as it lined up for the runway.

Inside cabin row 7, absolute silence reigned for the remainder of the flight. Chloe had spent the last two hours staring blankly out the window, occasionally wiping away furious, humiliated tears as she realized the glamorous first-class lifestyle she had envisioned with her married boss had just transformed into a federal criminal conspiracy. Julian sat slumped in seat 7B, staring straight ahead, looking like a man serving a life sentence before his trial had even begun.
Elena remained composed, reviewing her tablet for messages from her sister Clara and attorney Evelyn.
When the plane touched down with a heavy thud and taxied toward the gate, the fasten-seatbelt sign chimed off. Passengers began unbuckling, reaching into overhead bins for roller bags and garment carriers.
"Stay seated," a voice murmured through the aisle intercom from the flight deck. "Federal law enforcement personnel have requested that rows one through ten remain seated until local authorities complete a priority debarkation."
Julian’s head snapped up. "Federal law enforcement?"
Before he could process the words, two men in dark suits and windbreakers bearing federal insignia stepped briskly through the forward galley door, walking straight down the aisle until they stopped right beside row 7.
The lead agent looked down at Julian, flashing an identification badge. "Mr. Julian Vance?"
Julian swallowed hard, his lips trembling. "Yes?"
"Step out into the aisle, please, Mr. Vance," the agent instructed calmly, pulling a pair of steel handcuffs from his belt loop. "You are being detained under a federal warrant issued by the U.S. District Court of Massachusetts for wire fraud, interstate financial concealment, and corporate embezzlement."
A collective gasp rippled through the surrounding rows. Passengers froze mid-reach for their luggage, staring in stunned silence.
"Wait—there's been a mistake!" Chloe shrieked, standing up in seat 7A, her voice cracking with panic. "I didn't do anything! I'm just an assistant!"
The second agent turned his steady, professional gaze toward her. "Ms. Chloe Miller? We also have an administrative summons regarding the transfer of misappropriated corporate funds into your private LLC accounts. You are required to accompany us for questioning as well."
Chloe slumped back into her seat, burying her face in her hands as silent, bitter sobs wracked her shoulders.
Julian didn't fight. As the cold steel cuffs clicked tightly around his wrists, biting into his skin, he turned his head one last time to look at Elena. There was no anger left in his eyes—only a hollow, crushing terror.
"Elena..." he croaked pathetically. "Please. Tell them. Tell them it's a misunderstanding."
Elena stood up smoothly from seat 7C, slipping her leather portfolio under her arm. She looked down at the man she had spent twelve years supporting, loving, and trusting—only to find a stranger who traded her loyalty for a disposable illusion.

"Have a safe trip to Miami, Julian," Elena said quietly. "Enjoy your new beginning."
With that, she turned and walked down the aisle, stepping past the federal agents and out into the jetway, leaving her old life behind in the dust.
