Chapter 6 - The Final AuditThe federal courthouse in lower Manhattan loomed like a gray monolith against the morning sky. Armed federal marshals stood shoulder-to-shoulder with Viscari’s elite security detail, creating an impenetrable human wall around the grand stone steps.

Inside Courtroom 302, history was being rewritten.
Marcus Blake sat at the defense table, his hands cuffed behind his back, looking smaller, paler, and infinitely more pathetic than he had when he swaggered into The Velvet Crown. Beside him sat two corporate defense attorneys sweating through their designer suits, desperately flipping through legal briefs they knew could not save them.
Seated in the gallery, flanked by Eli and Marco, I watched as the federal prosecutor submitted the titanium flash drive into evidence.
The drive contained every decrypted bank record, every wire transfer, and every recorded phone call proving that Marcus Blake, along with three sitting federal judges and the current district attorney, had been laundering money through the Vance shell corporation for years—and orchestrating the harassment and surveillance of my life.
The judge, a stern-faced woman with decades on the bench, looked down at Marcus with undisguised contempt.
"Mr. Blake," the judge said, her voice echoing through the silent courtroom. "You are facing charges of extortion, conspiracy to commit murder, racketeering, and interstate stalking. Do you have anything to say before the court enters a permanent remand without bail?"
Marcus looked up, his eyes darting frantically toward the gallery until they landed on me. A twisted, desperate sneer crossed his face.
"She’s not innocent!" Marcus shouted, standing up so abruptly his chair screeched against the floor. "She knew about the accounts! She was helping me launder—"
"Silence, Mr. Blake!" the bailiff bellowed, shoving him back down into his seat as two armed guards clamped their hands onto his shoulders.
The judge didn't even blink. "Mr. Blake, your outbursts only cement your fate. You are remanded to maximum security federal custody with no possibility of parole pending trial." She struck her gavel once, the sharp crack ringing out like a gunshot. "Court is adjourned."
As the marshals hauled Marcus away, his frantic curses echoing down the hallway, a profound, unshakable weight lifted from my chest. The monster who had tormented me, who had tried to steal my past and my future, was finally locked away where he could never touch me again.
I stood up from the gallery bench.
Adrien was waiting for me by the heavy oak doors of the courtroom. He wore a sharp charcoal suit, his tie neatly knotted, looking every bit the untouchable titan of New York—yet when his eyes met mine, all the armor vanished.
"It's over," Adrien said softly, stepping closer as the crowd began to filter out around us.
"It's over," I repeated, a genuine smile breaking across my face for the first time in years. I reached out, my fingers brushing against the lapel of his jacket. "You kept your promise."

Adrien caught my hand, turning it over and pressing a lingering, reverent kiss to my knuckles.
"I told you, Lena," he murmured, his dark eyes burning with fierce, unwavering devotion. "I protect what is mine."
