Chapter 6 - The Rebirth of MarianaSix months later, the spring flowers were in full bloom across the sprawling terraced gardens of Escalante Estate—my true home, nestled high in the hills overlooking the Pacific Ocean.

The estate was a masterpiece of timeless elegance, glowing softly in the afternoon sun. There were no crystal chandeliers meant to intimidate guests, no forced displays of aristocratic superiority, and no toxic mother-in-law lurking in the hallways to critique my manners or my clothes. Here, wealth was not a weapon used to crush others; it was a tool used to build, to protect, and to empower.
I walked down the wide stone steps of the terrace, wearing a simple, flowing white silk dress that moved gently in the ocean breeze. In my hand, I carried a cup of freshly brewed herbal tea.
Behind me, the heavy oak double doors of the grand library opened quietly, and my father stepped out onto the patio, his silver hair catching the sunlight with distinguished grace.
"You've been spending hours in that library again, Mariana," my father said with a warm, affectionate smile. "Even with the entire conglomerate running smoothly, you still review every ledger yourself."
I turned and smiled, walking over to join him by the stone balustrade. "Old habits die hard, Dad," I replied lightly, sipping my tea. "Besides, a true executive never relies solely on others to protect her house."
My father chuckled, wrapping a supportive arm around my shoulders. "You handled the Sterling liquidation with the precision of a master surgeon. The financial markets are still talking about how quickly that entire empire dissolved overnight."
"They thought they were untouchable," I said quietly, watching the white waves crash against the rocky shore far below. "They forgot that the only reason their world stood at all was because someone was holding up the foundation from underneath."
"And now?" my father asked gently, looking down at me with deep pride in his eyes. "What does the future hold for Mariana Escalante?"

I looked out toward the endless horizon, where the blue sea met the golden sky. The pain of the past had completely dissolved, replaced by a profound, unshakeable peace. I was no longer hiding behind a quiet persona, no longer enduring insults disguised as advice, and no longer shackled to a man who saw me as property.
"Now," I smiled, lifting my chin toward the sun, "we build something better."
