Chapter 2 - The Fall of the Phantom KingHe thought he was leaving a heartbroken wife in the dark, but he was actually walking straight into a spotlight on his own public execution.

The luxury private room at Saint Jude’s Women’s Hospital was filled with the scent of fresh lilies and expensive baby lotion.
Rachel sat up in the plush mechanical bed, wearing a silk robe, sipping an organic smoothie while posting a photo of her newborn twins to her Instagram feed. The caption read: “Blessed beyond measure. Our secret miracle family is finally complete. ❤️”
She smiled, waiting for the likes and comments to flood in.
For twelve years, she had played the quiet, supportive 'best friend' to Clara. She had listened to Clara cry over failed IVF treatments, held her hand during doctor appointments, and secretly slept with Justin in luxury hotels funded by Clara’s company.
Now, she had won. Clara was alone, discarded, and childless, while Rachel had secured the handsome, wealthy COO of a top consulting firm.
The heavy mahogany door of the maternity suite burst open.
Justin stumbled into the room. He didn't look like the confident, dashing billionaire boyfriend who had left her bedside the night before. His suit jacket was gone, his shirt was unbuttoned at the collar, his hair was disheveled, and his face was pale, sunken, and wild.
"Justin?" Rachel asked, setting her smoothie down on the tray, her brow furrowed in annoyance. "Where have you been? I called you three times! The hospital finance office came in an hour ago asking to clear the remaining fifty thousand dollar balance for the private suite—"
"Whose are they?" Justin rasped.
His voice was so raw, so filled with dark, vibrating fury that Rachel froze mid-sentence.
"What?" Rachel asked, a small, nervous laugh escaping her lips. "Justin, what are you talking about?"
Justin marched across the room, grabbing the footboard of her bed, leaning over her with eyes red with bloodshot rage.
"Whose... children... are... those?!" Justin roared, pointing a trembling finger at the two plastic bassinets resting in the corner.
Rachel’s heart skipped a beat, but she quickly forced a delicate, confused expression onto her face. "Justin, stop it! You're scaring me! They are YOUR children! We talked about this! You were there in the delivery room!"
Justin pulled a crumpled sheet of paper from his pocket and slammed it onto her meal tray.
It was the certified 2005 surgical report signed by the Chief of Urology at Massachusetts General Hospital.
"I am sterile, Rachel!" Justin screamed, his voice cracking with sheer humiliation. "I have been sterile since I was nineteen years old! Non-obstructive azoospermia! Zero count! I CANNOT HAVE CHILDREN!"
Rachel stared at the bold, red-underlined medical diagnosis on the paper.
The color drained from her cheeks in less than two seconds. Her cheerful, triumphant mask shattered completely, revealing the cold, calculating panic underneath.
"Justin... wait... listen to me..." Rachel stammered, scrambling backward against her pillows.
"Who is the father?!" Justin bellowed, tears of rage spilling down his face. "Is it my money you wanted?! Is it my status?! WHOSE BABIES ARE THOSE?!"
Before Rachel could craft another lie, the door of the maternity suite opened once more.
Two uniformed police officers, accompanied by a sharp-looking man in a grey suit, walked into the room.
"Justin Bennett?" the lead officer asked calmly.
Justin turned around, shaking, his chest heaving. "What? Who are you?!"
"I am Special Investigator Thomas from the Financial Crimes Unit," the man in the suit said, pulling an official badge from his pocket. "Justin Bennett, you are under arrest for grand larceny, wire fraud, and embezzlement of eight hundred thousand dollars from Apex Consulting Group."
"No! That's a mistake!" Justin yelled as the officers stepped forward, grabbing his arms and pulling them behind his back. "That's my wife's company! It's marital property!"
"It was never marital property," Investigator Thomas replied coldly, snapping heavy steel handcuffs around Justin’s wrists. "Mrs. Clara Bennett established the business three years prior to your marriage under a sole-proprietorship trust. You were an employee. And your former wife has provided full banking records showing you funneled company funds into an offshore account registered to a Miss Rachel Vance."
The officer turned his gaze to Rachel, who was shrinking into her bed, trembling violently.
"Miss Vance," the investigator added, "a freezing order has been placed on this hospital account, as well as the lease on your downtown penthouse. You have two hours to clear your personal belongings before court officers seize the property as proceeds of crime."
May you like
"No!" Rachel shrieked, tears flooding her face. "You can't do this! I just had twins! Justin, do something!"
Justin looked at Rachel—at the woman he had destroyed his life for, the woman who had given him another man's children while stealing his wife's fortune—and let out a hollow, bitter, crazy laugh as the police dragged him down the sterile hallway in full view of doctors, nurses, and hospital staff.
